Family Physicians have to see a high volume for the pay we get. We stay late to finish the work. We work slightly less hours a week(2-3) than an Orthopedic Surgeon according to Grok.

And yet our pay is LESS than HALF of Orthopedic Surgeons. Doctors are paid with RVU Coupons not cash. The RUC committee decides how much a Doctors work(via RVUs) is worth. The RUC is made up of Specialists groups. 19 Specialists and 4 Primary Care.

The RUC is like 19 wolves and 4 sheep deciding what’s for dinner.

RVUs are not agnostic because the RUC has given more of them to CPT Codes and Procedures than office visits.

Family Physicians treat deadly illnesses. Joint replacements they treat arthritis. The disconnect is as wide as the Grand Canyon and the RUC voted for it and have had no problems with it for decades.

Now Specialists want solidarity. I do to. Walk away from RVU payments and take cash. It is already being done. Even surgeons can take cash for payment. The patient gets a better, more affordable, more accessible surgery.

But Specialists don’t want that. They want their RVUs. Don’t count on support from the Primary Care Doctors that Specialists have dined on the last 30 years.
