In 2021, my friend Carole was diagnosed with terminal stage four cancer. A single parent with two kids, she had just turned 43. In 2017, she had watched her brother Chris die of the same cancer. He too was in his 40s.
Had a peer to peer scheduled with @UHC as they denied a medication for my patient. I explained what clinical trials have shown, guidelines, and expert medical opinion. Doc then responded that she can’t override the denial due to “plan policy.” 1/5

@gbosslet The only correct answer is nobody knows for sure. I would probably advise the patient to avoid hot tubs.
If it is truly due to NTM I think that’s hard to eradicate. I have seen cases with + serology to Aureo pullulans as well. I would worry about risk of developing fibrosis.

@dhmontgomery Has anybody looked at modeling to try to estimate the number of home tests people are taking? Perhaps looking at the number of tests sold and try to estimate the positivity rate?
