"Fuellmich applies for release, having completed (more than) two thirds of his detention time

As of this month, Reiner Fuellmich, the German lawyer and co-founder of the Corona Investigative Committee, will have completed two thirds of his prison sentence. In Germany, that means that prisoners may request to be released – especially if they are (alleged) first time offenders, as in Fuellmich’s case. His lawyer Katja Wörmer is currently working on the request, which will probably be submitted to the Regional Court in Stade.

Supporters of Fuellmich are hopeful the application will be successful, but know full well that a rejection will be more in line with the trampling of law and human rights, so far, in this case.

As his punishment and treatment by both by Göttingen’s public prosecutors Simon Philipp John and Manuel Recha, the Fifth Camber of the District Court of Göttingen, Rosdorf prison and the Federal Supreme Court (BGH) is becoming more disproportional with every passing day, more and more people are calling for Fuellmich’s release.

Even those who still think, contrary to so many facts, that Fuellmich was guilty, are beginning to say that ‘enough is enough’. The hope is that there will be judges among them, who will finally reclaim the law and order Fuellmich’s release, on the basis of having completed two thirds of the prison sentence.

In actual effect, Fuellmich has done more than two thirds, had Göttingen’s Fifth Chamber not taken the unprecedented step to deduct only thirteen months of his eighteen months’ pretrial detention."
