I've been following along with the events in Alberta related to the separation efforts and the First Nations response.

They keep bringing up the treaties. This is such a weak argument, with First Nations proponents constantly posting maps of Alberta showing how much of the province is covered by treaties.

It's such a stupid argument. It's like me trying to assert control over a property that I sold 30 years ago and claiming that I somehow now have some control over what happens with it.

The only viable argument they have is the reserve land, which is less than 1% of the province. And they have options. They can either stay within Canada, negotiate a new deal with Alberta, or form their own nations.

They know that the grifting is at risk. They can't stay in Canada because Alberta would now be a sovereign country, and they would require passports and have to abide by whatever entry laws exist, and that would destroy their communities.

They don't want to join Alberta because they know Alberta would never put up with the same grifting that Canada does.

And they definitely don't want to manage the reserves themselves because they would be completely impoverished, even more so than they are now.

So their only defense is claiming that all of Alberta is somehow still their land and that they can assert dominance over the province.

Sorry, you may not like it, but the land is gone. It's not yours. It's been ceded. It's over.

Even if you claim that some of the treaty obligations have not been met, that does not give you the right to simply take the land back.

If you believe that the treaty rights have been violated, then that's an issue for the courts, and it's a civil claim. It does not give you automatic domain over land that was given up hundreds of years ago.

The First Nations in this country have a place in this country, but they know full well that Alberta First Nations will no longer be able to leach from the governments the way they have in the past if Alberta leaves Confederation.

The irony is that what they don't realize is their whining, complaining, and threats are only reinforcing the premise as to why Alberta needs to leave Canada.

I don't want to see Canada break up. But this country is fast becoming a failed state. I don't blame Alberta for this effort. It is a bad marriage. And at minimum, the relationship needs to be revisited. At maximum, Alberta needs to do it alone.

If Alberta separates, I will be gone from British Columbia, and I will become a fierce advocate for Saskatchewan separating as well and joining Alberta.

This country has betrayed me, my descendants, and my ancestors. I have the right to my country, my culture, my history. And I am asked to surrender it, and to just suck it up and take it.
