When mere observers can read exchanges between former government ministers & the architect of his exit from politics - 18 months after the fact - it really makes you appreciate how this site has increased our insight into politics, for all the bad it brings with it.
@GuruAnaerobic The rise of individualism over the past century has made collective responsibility a frightening prospect for many. “If I have to look after x, y, z, I might lose myself”. Perhaps the more accurate rhetoric is “If I don’t raise a family, perhaps I’ll never find myself.”
I remain unconvinced. Exams should stay pen and paper.
Moving assessment onto screens will inevitably create pressure for more classroom work and exam preparation to become digital. That is a major educational change, yet the case presented here seems to rely largely on short-answer trials and claims of “almost no downside”.
We should need much stronger evidence before redesigning assessment around screens.
@keviinvanhove@MMAG33K If he was avoiding putting weight on his right leg then why on earth would he open the fight with of the most weight bearing moves possible?
@anandcheam@bphillipsonMP You’ve completely missed the point here.
Government is saying that uniform can be bought affordably - like the examples you have - but NOT when schools require lots of branded items with the school crest on, which cost much more.
@ABridgen I’m an RE teacher. This is completely inaccurate.
Throughout their 5 years doing RE, our students do one six week module on Islam when they’re in Year 8. Other than that, they don’t do it at all.
@otus1961@Hector_McNeil@Geiger_Capital If American = someone deciding to live in America, then yes. But AGB didn’t gain citizenship until 6 years after he patented the light bulb.
It’s like saying all illegal immigrants in the US are American.
@tombennett71 I wasn’t compulsory in England until 2008.
Regardless of the broader point he’s making - I think his experience of not being taught about the British Empire at school is common among people in their 30s and over.
