And just like that, it’s all over.
What a year it’s been. I’m genuinely so proud of everyone for what we accomplished and for finishing top 4 at Champs.
From the bottom of my heart, I’ll forever have love for every single person who was part of this journey. From the boys I had the pleasure of sharing the server with, to everyone behind the scenes at G2 who never gave up on us, believed in us, and gave us the opportunity to make this insane run.
But most of all, I want to thank the person who believed in me and saw potential in me when it felt like everyone else had written me off. @JoshRT, I’ll forever be indebted to you.
You gave me a chance I had been chasing my entire VALORANT career, and together we made it happen. I don’t think you’ll ever truly understand how much that meant to me.
You guys will always be my brothers, and no matter where life takes us, I’ll forever be rooting for every single one of you, both in and out of the server. @jawgemo@valynfps@trentFPS@leaf_cs@JustMarby@AlbanDechelotte
I’m looking forward to playing on stage again. ✌️
An amusing result of this new survey is that Democratic-voting workers had a startlingly high net-favorable view of Socialism while also saying that taxes were too high and they oppose government ownership stakes in companies. (Link next.)
This is all so obvious and, frankly, it’s boring and insulting to have to argue with the Noah Smith’s and the Yglesias’s of the world about whether this is what will happen under multiculturalism. Of course it’s what will happen. Here’s a video of it happening.
It's crazy that there's a tool out there that's become vital to they way I do my job, parent my kids, and make major life decisions; and yet we barely spend more on it than AI
Singapore PM why his government doesn't cap prices to reduce cost of living pressures.
What western leader today could explain the value of price signals in such a way?
If you want to understand why healthcare is so expensive, I'd start with a Supreme Court case about teeth whitening.
Around 2003, spas and small kiosks in North Carolina were offering teeth whitening for a fraction of what dentists charge.
So dentists complained to the state dental board. That dental board looks like this:
- 6 of 8 are practicing dentists, elected by other dentists
- 8 of the 10 who sat on the board during this period earned substantial fees from whitening
The board sent 47+ cease-and-desist letters, warning non-dentists that they're committing a crime by practicing dentistry without a license. The board also sent letters to mall operators, advising them to expel whitening kiosks.
All this worked! These kiosks shut down, prices stayed high, dentists stayed happy.
Regulatory capture like this exists all over in healthcare. What makes this case notable is that someone actually sued the NC dental board, in a case that went all the way to the supreme court.
In a 6-3 ruling, the SC ruled that if a board is run by those who participate in the market without proper supervision - that looks like a cartel, therefore, antitrust law applies.
I have to believe there are so many other potential cases like this in healthcare, just waiting to be pressed on. I'd love to see more of this.
“LA’s ‘mansion tax,’ sold to Angelenos as a way to tax the rich and boost housing, has instead blocked the building of 9,100 homes, wiped out 16,650 full-time construction jobs and cost $452 million in revenue.”
Bukele is the wildly popular and democratically elected leader of El Salvador. The Economist call him the ‘Dictator’.
Maduro, according to virtually all other countries, stole the 2024 election in Venezuela, but is solemnly described by The Economist as ‘the President’.
I’d genuinely like to know how and why the editorial team at the Economist makes these sorts of calls.
