Brangwyn was a Welsh artist who was almost totally self-taught and he was involved in virtually any aspect of art you might care to mention, including large murals. He was probably the most famous artist of his day.

Hassam was one of the earliest and best regarded of the group of painters dubbed 'American Impressionists'.
He does not seem to have been very influenced by French Impressionism despite studying in Paris.

The artist was a leading light in the Naturalist school, emphasising detail without exagerration , which they said made their art different from the realist school, mainly by avoiding political or social subjects.

David Hockney.
Hockney was probably the UK's most prominent living artist, before dying on Thursday. He was a leading light of the pop-art movement in the 60's and made a number of paintings featuring pools. RIP
