@RT_Spearman @Bagodictionary @JuiceSimpsons dude no one is saying they're not horror films. you've wandered into an awards discourse in which movies get split between DRAMA and MUSICAL OR COMEDY and given that context, these horror films function as the latter. and yeah Die Had is a comedy and a Christmas movie.

I'm sorry, but GET OUT is a comedy. THE SUBSTANCE is a comedy. And yes, OBSESSION is a comedy. There's no ambiguity here. More specifically, i'd classify it as "sketch-comedy" horror.

@johnsemley3000 i was expecting this to happen more in the wake of GET OUT and DGG's HALLOWEEN. When Chris Rock got attached to a SAW movie, I was like here we go, but then that film weirdly didn't utilize him comedically at all. Cregger's success I think finally codified the style.

got to read the whole article; there are more astute assessments within, but the overall thesis remains as confused and unproductive as its headlines. Viable "indie films" get defined as "genuinely distinctive and broadly commercial" which is too abstract to be useful.

its not a supply issue; it's a lack of nerve and imagination on how to bring indie films to an audience that they may observe is out there, but don't understand how to reach without because they're still relying antiquated and frankly broken distribution models
