That is not a surprise dropped on you from Westminster.

It is the result of the policy you and the SNP chose, defended, and refused to change until the money ran out.

Glasgow was already the only serious dispersal city in Scotland for two decades.

You did not treat that as a problem to fix. You treated it as proof you were more compassionate than everyone else.

You kept taking the bulk of the numbers while other councils took almost none.

At Holyrood your own government abolished priority need and created one of the most generous homelessness duties in the UK, so people granted status in London, Birmingham or Belfast could travel here and present as homeless.

That is not “beyond Glasgow’s control.”

That is a pull factor your party wrote into law.

You declared a housing emergency in 2023.

You knew the city could not house its own people.

You carried on anyway.

When locals pointed at hotel bills, temporary accommodation and squeezed services you called the critics racists.

Now the same numbers you welcomed have produced street protests and a cohesion warning, and your line is that none of it is Glasgow’s making.

It is exactly Glasgow’s making under your leadership.

You cannot spend years concentrating thousands of people in one city, advertise it as a virtue, fail to build the housing, fail to force a fairer national split, and then act shocked when the budget blows up and residents notice.

Stepping down does not wipe the record. This is your mess.

When an asylum seeker gets Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) they become homeless persons
Once they are homeless, the local council must house them.
This allows Councils to claim that they do not give council homes to asylum seekers, this is misleading.
