“How do you restore trust in the Senate? The Malacañang approved SP is now what? That is a very, very insulting way of treating a SP!”

Spot on with the contrast. Vietnam hitting 8.39% growth in Q2 is really strong, especially compared to the Philippines’ recent performance.
Vietnam’s growth looks driven by solid manufacturing expansion and continued high FDI inflows into export-oriented industries. That export-led model is clearly working well for them right now attracting foreign investment, increasing productive capacity, and boosting output.
The Philippines, on the other hand, has been more dependent on services and remittances, which hasn’t generated the same kind of momentum lately.
Interesting to see how these two economies are diverging based on their growth strategies.

Yeah right 2% growth is a milestone for a record low piss poor economy.
The Philippines’ elevation to upper-middle income status places it in a much broader and more varied group than it might first appear.
Under the World Bank classification, the country now sits alongside economies across Asia, Latin America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. This includes Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China in Asia; Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador in Latin America; South Africa, Botswana and Namibia in Africa; Turkey, Serbia and Georgia in Europe; and Jordan, Iraq, Algeria and Morocco in the Middle East and North Africa.
It is a wide mix of economies with very different levels of development, infrastructure and income distribution.
The label itself is based on one narrow measure, gross national income per capita. It does not account for how evenly income is spread, how affordable basic goods and services are, or how stable everyday living conditions are for most households.
That is why countries within the same bracket can feel very different in practice.
Malaysia is often cited as being closer to high-income status, supported by higher wages and more developed infrastructure. Thailand has built a strong manufacturing and tourism base over several decades.
China, despite being the world’s second-largest economy, remains in this category because its national average is pulled down by large income gaps between urban and rural areas.
At the same time, countries like Brazil and South Africa continue to face persistent inequality and uneven access to economic opportunity.
The Philippines’ inclusion in this group comes after years of steady economic growth and an increase in national income per person. It also strengthens the country’s position in the eyes of investors and may improve access to financing, which can support future development.
Still, the grouping is better understood as a statistical classification rather than a shared level of prosperity. Countries in the same bracket can be moving in very different directions, with some steadily improving wages and services while others struggle with persistent structural gaps.
What the classification does show is where the Philippines sits in the global income ladder today. What it does not show is how evenly that progress is felt across households, regions and income groups.
