Extremely welcome news today from the NHS: nearly 4 million women in England will be offered HPV self-testing kits if they have not attended cervical screening appointments.

As part of its commitment to eliminating cervical cancer by 2040, the NHS is making it easier than ever to get tested for HPV.

Right now, whether a disabled person's bus pass works before 9.30am depends on where they live. That's simply not right.

This government is stepping in and ending the postcode lottery. From April 2027, eligible disabled people everywhere - including here in Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket - get free bus travel, 24/7. 🚌

I was disappointed to learn that the Bury St Edmunds Post Office branch will be closing on 30 September, following the announcement of TG Jones' restructuring plan.

Last week, I contacted the Post Office to express my concerns about the provision of postal services for residents. I'm pleased to see that there is now a consultation open, and they are looking to find an alternative provider in the town centre.

Today the UK has recorded its hottest day of the year so far, reaching 38.1°C, during our fifth heatwave of the summer.

Here in Suffolk, we are under an amber extreme heat warning.

Against that backdrop, the Reform-led Suffolk County Council’s decision to rescind its Climate Emergency declaration looks increasingly short-sighted.

Whatever the terminology, the reality is clear: our climate is changing. We need serious, practical action to protect our communities, countryside and public services from extreme heat, drought, flooding and wildfires - not a retreat from our environmental commitments.

Welcome news that the UK economy grew by 0.4% between April and June, showing resilience despite considerable global uncertainty.

There is more to do, but our focus must remain on delivering sustainable growth, supporting businesses and ensuring people across the country feel the benefits.

These new powers will give local councils and residents a greater say over new vape shops, betting shops and adult gaming centres - helping us protect and revitalise town centres like Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.
