Wonderfully stated and long overdue. I would add one more aspect to it. Biden, in addition to being in slow mental decline, had a huge inferiority complex from his time in the Obama administration. He was routinely mocked behind his back. Robert Gates famously said that Biden was on the wrong side of every major foreign policy decision for the last 4 decades and he was brought in specifically for his foreign policy experience. A guy like that is going to be highly susceptible to a couple of historians whispering sweet FDR nothings into his ear.

Flagler College in St. Augustine invited me to present a chapter of my upcoming book. The second chapter, John Adams in Amsterdam: The Dutch Newspaper Wars, 1780-1783 explores the media campaign conducted by Adams to create a new American in the eyes of the Dutch public, one worthy story f a financial investment.
