Van Gogh’s olive groves 🌳❤️‍🩹 ‘... in all of nature, in trees for instance, I see expression and a soul, as it were.’
After his infamous breakdown in Arles, Vincent admitted himself to the Saint-Paul psychiatric institution in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. When he was finally allowed to paint outdoors, he found himself drawn to the nearby olive groves. They fed both his creativity and his spirit.
The olive groves became his sanctuary, where art and healing intertwined:
‘... it seems to me that nature sees to it that illness is a means of getting us back on our feet, of healing us’.
