Jageshwar Prasad fought a ₹100 bribery case for 39 years before being acquitted at age 83. He lost his job, his family suffered, and his wife reportedly died during the ordeal.

Babubhai Prajapati fought a ₹20 bribery case for 30 years before being cleared. He died of a heart attack one day after his acquittal.

An excise official fought a ₹500 bribery case for 36 years before the Supreme Court finally closed it.

Meanwhile, Dhiman Chakma, allegedly caught accepting ₹10 lakh in bribe money with another ₹45 lakh reportedly recovered from his residence, is back in government service as Deputy Secretary.

In India, a ₹20, ₹100 or ₹500 allegation can destroy your entire life if you're an ordinary employee. But if you're part of the elite bureaucracy, the system seems to operate very differently.
