An open letter to @JNJNews. Stop pursuing the secondary patent of bedaquiline. YOU KNOW that millions of people will be unable to access lifesaving treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis if you extend the patent. YOU KNOW it violates your credo. https://t.co/JArPHWpmv5
In part because you are monopolizing the distribution of bedaquiline, a life-saving medication that most people who need don't get because you keep the price of the drug artificially high.
Because of your bad business and ethics decision, MDR-TB can spread further and faster.
YOU are extending the patent of bedaquiline in countries impoverished by racism and colonialism--like Sierra Leone. The bedaquiline patent SHOULD end 20 years after you filed it on July 18th, 2003. But you're extending it, denying people access to affordable lifesaving treatment.
I don't know how contractors who shop at Home Depot ever get jobs done since 90% of them are too lazy to walk 10 feet to throw away their trash or put away their carts.
