Thank you, @narendramodi ji, for reminding what compassion in practice looks like.
The discourse around our community animals has been heavy with anger & fear, but your words steady the ground.
Karuna for the voiceless is not weakness - it is our civilisational strength.
Thank you, Sir, for being a sensible voice in a hard season.

131-page Supreme Court judgment.
32 mentions reinforcing the Animal Birth Control Rules.
1 line permitting euthanasia for rabid or mortally wounded dogs - and that becomes the headline.
Clickbait thrives on fear. The law doesn’t.
The architecture of today’s order: ABC Rules upheld, one ABC centre per district mandated, every High Court on compliance watch.
This reinforces what has always been the only humane and scientific framework:
Sterilise. Vaccinate. Return.
Let’s keep our focus where it needs to be.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court’s directions in Suo Motu W.P. (C) No. 5 of 2025 place renewed emphasis on implementation, compliance, and strengthening on-ground ABC infrastructure nationwide.
Directions include at least one ABC Centre in every district and nationwide monitoring through High Courts.

VIDEO | Delhi: Activist Gauri Mulekhi on Supreme Court order on stray dogs, says, "I think it is good that the honorable Supreme Court has finally reiterated that animal birth control rules, which were first notified in 2001, have still not been implemented well by most states, and strict directions have been given by the honorable Supreme Court to implement the animal birth control rules, every district is supposed to have an animal birth control center, trained veterinarians and capacity commensurate to the dog population in their districts to conduct a properly monitored animal birth control program. The High Courts are now supposed to collect compliance reports from the state governments. Every single High Court will register a suo motu case and the Chief Secretaries and relevant secretaries of the departments will report to the respective High Courts in relation to compliance with animal birth control rules. We are grateful that the court has upheld the animal birth control rules and directed for its scientific and expeditious implementation."

#WATCH | Delhi: On Supreme Court refuses to modify directions to remove stray dogs from public places, Animal rights activist Gauri Mulekhi says, "I think it is a balanced judgment. Earlier in November, the Court had asked for dogs to be summarily picked up and removed and kept in shelters, whatever. Here today, the most stress was given to animal birth control rules. It has been directed that there has to be an animal birth control centre in every district. There has to be trained manpower, trained veterinarians, as well as procedures to be followed, which have been prescribed by the Animal Welfare Board of India. Reporting has to be done, and compliance reports have to be given to the High Courts and the Supreme Court. So the focus on animal birth control rules is very, very welcome, and the rest has been left to the state authorities as to how they want to remove dogs from sensitive areas..."
Introducing the ‘Ask Me Anything’ series.
Over the last two decades, I’ve worked across different areas of animal protection in India - engaging with the legal system, working with institutions, sensitizing enforcement agencies, and teaching students and professionals.
One thing that has remained constant is how much confusion exists around animal welfare laws, what actually counts as cruelty, and what people can realistically do when they witness harm.
So I’m starting this series to answer your questions directly.
Send me anything you’ve ever wondered about - animal cruelty, welfare laws, situations you’ve encountered, or things you’ve always been unsure about. I’ll personally go through the submissions and answer selected questions in a video releasing later this month.
Here is the link to submit your questions: https://t.co/YUEWTNMPgg
Please keep your questions clear and specific. I'm looking forward to answering your most asked questions.
First at the UP Police Headquarters. Now at the Moradabad Police Academy.
Because animal protection laws do not enforce themselves - people do.
Building on our sessions at UP HQ, @PFAppf in partnership with @Uppolice conducted a specialised workshop focused on strengthening enforcement of animal protection laws and on-ground response.
Every trained officer means:
• better recognition of cruelty offences
• stronger legal intervention
• faster action for animals in distress
• one more institutional safeguard

40 farmers. Anand, Gujarat. One workshop on making cage-free egg production work on the ground.
This is one step in a nationwide mission to close the gap between policy and adoption.

Grateful to @Uppolice for organising a specialised workshop on animal protection laws at the UP Police Headquarters, Lucknow.
Laws acquire meaning only when they reach the ground through humane and courageous enforcement.
Every officer trained today strengthens the thin line that stands between suffering and protection for millions of animals who depend entirely on human conscience for their survival and dignity.

Our team at PFA PPF recently visited Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh to assess the caged poultry facility of MPWPCL as part of discussions on transitioning to cage-free systems for more humane and sustainable egg production.

@priyankabangari, Trustee at PFA PPF, spoke at the @PoultryIndia15 Conclave on scaling cage-free, humane egg production in India, including the Govt of Uttar Pradesh’s collaboration with PFA PPF to train farmers and establish model demonstration farms.
#cagefree#poultry
We hosted @IndianStandards officials at our cage-free demo farm for discussions on cage-free housing standards in India. Encouraged by the momentum towards better farmed animal welfare through policy and innovation.

Our sacred journey for justice leads from the courts straight to the yatra trails, to end the silent suffering of thousands of mules and horses who bear pilgrims on their broken bodies.
In Chamoli today, @ChamoliDm directed all stakeholders and detailed every legal provision. We addressed implementation challenges and discussed solutions.
Hope shines for a kinder Hemkund Yatra.

At NALSAR’s 7th Courts and Constitution Conference this weekend, I joined Sr. Adv. Raj Panjwani, Rahul Basu, and Kanchi Kohli to dissect 'Adjudicating Environmental Juristocracy.' We cannot discuss environmental governance without addressing urban ecology and municipal accountability. Animal welfare isn't just a question of compassion - it is a matter of strict statutory enforcement and institutional liability.

What happens in factory farms doesn’t stay there.
Antibiotics in eggs. Pus cells in milk. ~70% of antibiotics used in livestock.
Animal welfare = public health — and we’re failing both.

From a recent session with 40 Judicial Magistrates at the Gujarat State Judicial Academy.
When animal protection laws are understood and implemented effectively, justice extends to those who cannot speak for themselves.
The arc of justice must be long enough to cover the most vulnerable among us.
Honored to address the judicial officers at the Gujarat State Judicial Academy on the crucial implementation of Animal Protection Laws.
When the courts speak for the voiceless, the entire foundation of society is elevated.

Academic institutions play a crucial role in advancing animal justice. Faculty of Law, Delhi University is driving this forward through its @animallawcell. Marking one year of collaboration with PFA PPF — a step toward giving this field the attention it deserves.
