The problem with cyclists:
-They go too fast
-They go too slow
-They won't get on the sidewalk
-They won't get off the sidewalk
-They are rich hobbyists
-They are folks who can't afford a car
-They are entitled and demand bike lanes
-They take the lane when there's no bike lane
Live to Ride is available anywhere you buy books— Amazon, B&N, Target and independent booksellers can order it. I also have a few boxes at home and if you want one with a personal inscription and some Nice Try Flaxy swag, just message me.
Thanks for reading my shameless plug!
With the holidays looming, may I humbly suggest my book "Live to Ride" as a thoughtful gift idea if you have friends or loved ones who love to ride bikes? I don’t do much self-marketing on social, but here are a few reasons I think most riders would appreciate it…
Reason #3: The book profiles a broad swath of interesting people in bike culture. I took a lot of care to talk to people who reflect the diversity of our culture and the different ways people ride. Collectively these folks underscore how inclusive and interesting bike culture is!
After a week on Bluesky, I'm not sure why I'd want to keep posting here. The doomscrolling is better here but on the other site there are no ads, no bots, very little trolling, and a surprising absence of strangers arguing with each other.
Even after 20 years of visiting Europe, watching Eurosport still blows my American mind. You can be watching a bike race in your hotel room and go to the bathroom and come back and there suddenly is billiards or darts on TV during prime time.
LOL my timeline is 50/50 Democrats saying Harris lost because she abandoned progressives and their principles and that she lost because she didn't more clearly repudiate leftist ideology and move more to the center.
And they say you can't make everyone unhappy all the time!
I know I'm not in America this week because:
-There was a very nice train from inside the airport to center city.
-The complementary hotel breakfast spread had 10+ options for jam and honey.
-The hotel bar has a giant TV playing a full rebroadcast of cyclocross racing.
@CritDrama I am not astounded that there are people who ignored that bad stuff or people who voted for him because of the bad stuff. I'm heartbroken that there are enough of those two groups to outvote everyone else.
I have spent the last 4 days pondering what happened on Election Day. I think there are many factors that led to Trump's victory but the biggest one IMO is that there are tens of millions of low information voters who have been exposed to an unprecedented misinformation campaign.
