This picture below illustrates the problem. These are returned medicines to pharmacy by just one patient and we have plenty more examples across the country.
Extending period of treatment to 56 days or 84 days for no clinical reason contributes to medicine wastage and costs the NHS money as none of these returned medicines can be reused. This also contributes to patient safety issues. We have raised concerns with NHSE since months and asked them to issue guidelines to ICBs, but no results yet.
More than 49,000 doses of the MenB vaccine been delivered to eligible young people across the South East since July 2026. If you're eligible, don't miss your chance to get protected.

“Community pharmacy is often described as the front door of the NHS, yet we are watching that door being systematically bolted shut.”
In today’s #HouseofLords debate, Baroness Janke highlighted:
🟥the vital role pharmacies play in keeping patients out of overstretched GP surgeries and A&E departments
🟥warning of a £2bn annual funding gap and the growing risk of closures, particularly in deprived communities.
With 1.6 million pharmacy visits every day providing essential triage and advice, peers across the House stressed the need to shift care closer to communities, improve patient experience, and ensure community pharmacy has the support it needs not just to survive, but to thrive.

The @UKLabour party has said pharmacies will break the law if they refuse to dispense loss-making drugs. The @DHSCgovuk told @ICPmagazine that dispensing at a loss was “not a valid reason for refusing to dispense”. @NPA1921@ComPharmEngland

Pharmacies need urgent protection.
No healthcare professional should face abuse at work — yet pharmacy teams are still being left exposed.
As highlighted by @ashleydcohen , this cannot continue.
Share this message and call for pharmacies to receive the same level of protection as other NHS staff. @ComPharmEngland
