The new 3.5% target came after Trump pulled teeth and the deadline is 2035, not immediately. We're not far off anyway: 3.4% per SIPRI, 3.2% by NATO's own count.

Also, NATO scores all 32 members by its own definition (pensions, DOE nuclear, etc.), not DoD-only line items. NATO's 2025 report: US $980B=3.2% of GDP. Same ruler for everyone.

And I cannot blame him. Just look at the numbers: the United States spends around 80 percent of NATO's defense resources, while Europe accounts for only about 20 percent.

That is unacceptable. It has always been unacceptable.
