For everything bad you could say about American culture (and it could fill libraries), we used to have a very Protestant aversion to ostentatious displays of wealth and a very republican aversion to veneration of living leaders. The Trump era has virtually destroyed both of those
@___VM___@KINGETH22@_Credible_Hulk There has never been a 2.5% NATO target. It was set at 2% at Wales in 2014 and reaffirmed at Vilnius in 2023. The new 3.5% target came after Trump pulled teeth and the deadline is 2035, not immediately. We're not far off anyway: 3.4% per SIPRI, 3.2% by NATO's own count.
@Numa2k_@t_szumik@_Credible_Hulk Oblivious is a kind way to say retarded lmao. They’ve done a ton of damage but so did Bush and the Iraq War. NATO has survived worse than Trump.
@Numa2k_@t_szumik@_Credible_Hulk Or an acknowledgment that Europes capability to defend itself is lacking and the transatlantic partnership with the US is a far safer bet.
@___VM___@KINGETH22@_Credible_Hulk Your own math refutes you, the previous target was 2%, and even your 2.76% clears it. Also, NATO scores all 32 members by its own definition (pensions, DOE nuclear, etc.), not DoD-only line items. NATO's 2025 report: US $980B=3.2% of GDP. Same ruler for everyone.
@___VM___@KINGETH22@_Credible_Hulk The VA isn’t in the DoD budget ,it’s a separate cabinet department with its own budget. You subtracted money that was never in your $849.8B What is in there is military healthcare for troops ( about $40B), which every NATO country also counts in its defense budget. (Cont)
The biggest lesson from the Graham Platner debacle is that both parties have been taken over by the biggest subhuman fucking losers to ever live because losers spend 80 hours a week online and have an infinite amount of time to spend on activism because they don't have friends or family and on the unlikely off-chance they have children they never see them because they aren't allowed within a thousand feet of a school or playground
This country will not return to greatness until slopulist, unemployable losers stop being allowed to think their opinions matter and get shoved back into lockers where they belong
@___VM___@KINGETH22@_Credible_Hulk https://t.co/rtayaiV6tN not sure where you got that number, we’re currently spending 3.4% which is sure to increase given the increases from the last budget Congress passes.
@___VM___@KINGETH22@_Credible_Hulk It’s based on the aggregate spending of all nations in NATO, obviously not an official budget of NATO itself. So all of the nations in NATO the US accounts for 80% of the total spending on defense.
@___VM___@KINGETH22@_Credible_Hulk Perhaps the acknowledgment that Europe only spends around 20% of NATO’s overall defense budget from a German Chancellor is more your speed?
Germany's Chancellor Merz admits:
Trump often applies pressure through a very forceful approach.
The last American presidents politely asked us, "Please, finally do a little more for your own defense," but across Europe those requests largely fell on deaf ears.
Now there is an American president who says, rather bluntly, "Enough is enough."
And I cannot blame him. Just look at the numbers: the United States spends around 80 percent of NATO's defense resources, while Europe accounts for only about 20 percent.
That is unacceptable. It has always been unacceptable.
