Hey #AcademicTwitter
do you think it's ok to tell your supervisor that you're lost and you need help? Wouldn't they doubt my skills? I'm afraid of being judged as not working hard. But I'm really lost and don't know what to do next.

@mattjohnstonca inspiring! 🙏🏻 I'm currently in a toxic environment myself. I'm trying to get out of it. It has paralyzed me, and I haven't produced any results in 6 months😔 Your reply gave me hope. By the way, congrats on your newborn baby 🎉 and good luck with your defence

@phdStudnt Started (only BSc) at 30. Entered PhD in chemistry at 36. Nearly failed out my 1st semester. Fought back 2nd semester. 1st one in my batch to defend and get a job finished in 4.5 yrs.
@phdStudnt After no undergrad research experience grad schools didn't give me a second glance.
My master's adviser decided I was worth a chance. He taught me so much.
Now, after thinking I couldn't get accepted, I have finished the first year of my PhD!
@phdStudnt Dropped out of college as a freshman @ 18 with 0 credits. Joined the Navy as enlisted, served & did multiple deployments, graduated with a bachelors 3yrs later after attending 3 colleges, masters 2yrs after, and working on my doctorate now. All while working min of 40 hrs a week
@phdStudnt@AcademicChatter 10 friends of mine graduated with their PhDs last week, another passed her viva with flying colours this week. And we saw many students we had taught as UGs graduate. A week of triumphs. All is possible.
