First and foremost, I want to thank God because without Him none of this would be possible. I’m beyond grateful for every blessing, lesson, setback, and opportunity throughout this journey. I also want to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported and believed in me along the way through all the sacrifices and hard work. With that being said, I’m blessed and excited to announce my commitment to PHH Prep. This is only the beginning ready to work. ❤️

The way slipping screens are evolving is a result of offenses getting smarter and leveraging the positioning and contact of the screen to force a switch before slipping to the basket, rather than simply anticipating it beforehand. Both methods are equally effective situationally, but I’d like to highlight a few ways teams have incorporated this type of slip into their offense. This is not necessarily a “new” method of slipping screens, but its increased popularity is worth noting.
Clip 1: The play that inspired me to make this post was Jose Alvarado’s only made basket of the game during the Knicks’ Game 3 win over the Cavs. It came out of the Knicks’ famous “modern flex” action that they’ve gone to quite a bit this postseason. Alvarado creates contact with Mitchell, forcing the switch from Schroder. The key is Alvarado keeping Mitchell on his high side before subsequently slipping to the basket after McBride finishes his cut.
Clip 2: The Rockets utilized this concept a lot with Amen Thompson, often leveraging Durant’s offensive gravity to increase the likelihood of success. This time, out of a Horns set, Thompson steps up into a flare for KD, creates contact with Vanderbilt to force the switch, stays underneath him, and ultimately creates the space needed to open up the slip.
Clip 3: Last example from the Warriors out of a mid-post split with Podziemski and Santos. The back screen from Santos once again forces the switch, but what makes it effective is Santos’ ability to create and maintain contact with Jalen Green before releasing toward the hoop.
Something about a grenade out of conceptual flow to an empty corner side that leads to a no dribble short roll pass while a baseline banana cut from Allen to the opposite block engages the low tag and puts Robinson & Alvarado into an impossible play 2 situation is just good for the soul.
