This week, the County honored Judge James A. Bonifant on a long and successful career. Today is his final day as our County Administrative Judge. We gave him a chance to say goodbye this week during the County Council meeting. https://t.co/KMzuqVswzg
I learned early on in life that travel is the purest form of education. You move, you learn. If you stay put or in a bubble, you’re vulnerable to ignorance and/or racism. They go hand-in-hand.
To immerse yourself in other cultures, to feel what it’s like to be a minority, to be in a city or country where they don’t speak English, it’s humbling, revealing and enlightening. And it’s living.
Having been to Puerto Rico, exploring and reporting for a travel show, I can tell you, it’s beautiful. On several levels.
Obviously not everyone will get the chance to see and feel Puerto Rico. Which is why, for me, Bad Bunny and that show was so impressive. He brought Puerto Rico to the masses, utilizing an opportunity and a platform to share his culture with his country. Yes, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States. Bad Bunny is, in fact, a citizen of the U.S.
Did I understand what Bad Bunny was singing? No. I don’t speak Spanish. But that didn’t offend me. I don’t understand a lot of the music I hear and most of it’s in English.
What I did understand: He told several stories about the life and times of where he’s from and how he got to where he is now. He preached love, unity and “Together we are America.”
You didn’t need to speak Spanish to understand or embrace that show, but you did need an open mind and heart to receive it. You had to be willing to learn and grow. Sorry if you missed it or didn’t like it. Totally your prerogative. And although it’s dwindling, you have a right to your opinion. As for mine: He crushed it.✌🏼
During our first conversation, I asked Dan Harwood for his thoughts on the evolution of basketball over his four-decade coaching career.
He laughed, then asked if I had two hours to chat.
He ended up giving me much more than that over the past month.

Washington, DC’s three public courses face uncertainty after it was announced the lease of the National Links Trust would be terminated.
Those who play the courses regularly have a lot to say about it.
The way the National Links Trust has handled the administration's blatant rug-pull in recent days has been a profile in class, dignity and commitment to their mission. A great American organization.
IMHO - National Links Trust assemblage of a global class team to deliver an “excellent public golf” mission is unparalleled, and should be actively supported and championed by every golfer. NLT’s “golf for the people” mission is worthy of praise, replication , and defense.
Part of Trump's vision for East Potomac is hosting a Ryder Cup. However, the next available date isn't until 2041, and the event is already scheduled for the Washington D.C. area in 2037 at Congressional Country Club
The Trump administration has officially moved to seize control of the municipal golf courses in Washington, D.C. and National Links Trust’s lease has been terminated, effective immediately.

The trump administration has officially terminated @links_national lease. But they’ve asked them to keep operating the courses because they have no plan in place on how they will actually take over. So all this did was stop renovations already underway at rock creek. What a whiff by the administration. The point of a 50 year lease is to give an organization confidence that long term investments in renovations will pay off. But if an administration ignores the lease and terminates it on a bogus basis, it sets a terrible precedent.
Hard to convey the minor miracle it was that a group with such deep golf course expertise and a national network of friends to help has been so invested in local municipal golf course management. Throwing them out makes no sense.
National Links Trust says the Trump administration has terminated its lease to operate East Potomac, Langston, and Rock Creek Park.
Years of federally compliant planning and public-focused stewardship are now gone, replaced by vague promises of something “world class.”
No plan. No timeline. No guarantees on access or affordability.
For now, the future of D.C.’s public golf courses is uncertainty. @links_national@fried_egg_golf@NoLayingUp@WashPost https://t.co/rvvjz6K2L4
I am heartbroken. The amount of work that was done to get to the precipice of renovation of Rock Creek Park GC is unquantifiable. @links_national should be lauded for their efforts. Not this. This is a blow to the surrounding communities. Tragic. https://t.co/KDR1J27gwV
If you don't care about golf, that's fine. If your politics differ from mine, that's totally fine too. Some issues can involve politicians but still be above politics. There isn't any justification for this beyond a transfer of public land use to a wealthier class of people.
