Imagine two friends who graduated from the same university with similar grades. Five years later, one is leading high-impact projects, attracting exciting opportunities, and earning significantly more. The other is still waiting for someone to recognise their potential.
Whether you are employed, freelancing, or running your own business, you are the CEO of your professional journey. Your employer may pay your salary, but your growth is ultimately your responsibility.
Praying in the name of Jesus is way beyond just ending a prayer by saying "in Jesus name." The reason is the request, mode of prayer and protocols observed or the lack therein may not represent the character, office nor the work of Christ.
A man whose words are not consistent with the intent of God for his life, one who murmurs and complains in situations about why God hasn't shown up for him, who backbites his neighbour and friend behind his back cannot expect his prayers to be heard and answered because he ends it with "in Jesus name" i prayer.
God doesn't give you a universal message for a universal audience. He gives you a specific message for a specific people. Your job is to deliver it faithfully, not to make it palatable for everyone.
John the Baptist's food was locusts & wild honey. Mk 1v6. Jesus said, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me..." Jn 4v34.
But here you are, eating rice+chicken, amala+ewedu, or gari+X. And you must have 3 square meals EVERY BLESSED DAY!

Teaching Note – The New Man in Christ Jesus
Preacher: Pastor Poju Oyemade
Church: Covenant Nation
Series: The New Man in Christ Jesus
Topic: The Battle of Identity
Introduction
The teaching continued on the subject of the new creature in Christ Jesus, with emphasis on what can be called the battle of identity.
This battle of identity is at the root of what is called spiritual warfare.
Christianity does not begin with God taking the same old man and teaching him better principles. The starting point of Christianity is that, when a person receives Christ, that person is born again and becomes a new creation.
The spirit of man — which is the real man — is recreated in Christ Jesus.
The New Creation in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
When a person is born again, a new spirit being comes into existence on the inside.
This new man is:
•Born of incorruptible seed
•Created in righteousness and true holiness
•God’s workmanship
•A completely new creation in Christ
Ephesians 4:24
1 Peter 1:23
There is no improvement God needs to make in the nature of the new man. The spirit man is created perfect in Christ.
The Spirit Is Recreated, Not the Soul
The new man lives inside the same body and still has a soul.
The soul is the organ through which the spirit expresses life in the body. It is where decisions, thoughts, emotions, memories, and responses are processed.
However, the soul did not get born again.
The soul has been programmed by the old man and must now be renewed.
Romans 12:2
“Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Transformation happens as the soul is reprogrammed by the Word of God.
Born of the Spirit
Jesus explained this to Nicodemus.
John 3:6–7
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
The new birth is not a rebirth of the flesh.
It is the birth of the spirit.
John 1:12–13
The new man is not born of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
This means the new man has no connection to the old bloodline. He is born directly of God.
The Battle of Two Identities
There is an identity in the flesh, and there is an identity in the spirit.
People may speak to a believer based on who they knew in the flesh. A believer may also continue to think and speak about himself based on the old man.
This is where the battle begins.
Words set limits in a person’s life.
If a person keeps speaking from the old identity, that person limits what can be expressed through the new man in Christ.
The believer must stop speaking from past limitations and start speaking from the reality of who he is in Christ.
The Power of Acknowledging the New Identity
Philemon 1:6
“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”
Faith becomes effective when every good thing in the believer in Christ is acknowledged.
The Holy Spirit opens the eyes of the believer to see the good things that now dwell within him in Christ.
Rebecca and the Two Sons
Genesis 25:22–23
Rebecca had two children struggling in her womb. When she inquired of the Lord, God revealed that two nations were within her, and that the elder would serve the younger.
This speaks prophetically of the flesh and the spirit.
The man born of the flesh is older.
The man born of the spirit is younger.
But the flesh must serve the spirit.
The spiritual identity is stronger than the natural identity.
Jesus and the Battle of Identity
Jesus also faced this battle.
In the natural, people saw Him as the son of Joseph.
Luke 4:22
“Is not this Joseph’s son?”
John 6:42
“Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?”
But Jesus knew His true identity. He declared that He came down from heaven.
We are seated together with Christ in heavenly places. We are not called to sit but to recognise that we are already there. When demands are made on this earth, we rejoice in ut because a door has been opened for God to show the richness of his grace in his kindness towards us.
Like Paul said, we now take pleasure in necessities, in reproaches, in persecutions. We glory in our infirmities for when we are "weak", it is an opportunity for his strength to be made perfect in us.
What never works is to deny yourself and betray your own core values because of the fear of hurting the feelings of another, scared of being abandoned or ostracised and so you sell your soul to belong.
Nobody succeeds without first aligning themselves with their true values. Your soul is not available to be manipulated by those who have no respect for your personal boundaries.
Be kind and hospitable but place a high value on yourself. Your sense of self worth is key. Build a wall around your soul but let it have a gate. A point of decision as to what goes out and what comes in.
Cultivate that walled garden within. Make it productive and beautiful it will attract those who are perfectly aligned with you.
John the Baptist is proof that you can be at the peak of your calling and still look like you are losing. Do not let appearances fool you or discourage you. Stay faithful to your assignment.
(John 1:35-37, John 3:30, Matthew 11:11)
God’s restoration plan is not simply to return us to where we were but to transform and permanently deliver us from the inclinations that caused our fall.
Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries to which they have gone.’
The same God who allowed the scattering has already planned the gathering. He does not demolish without a blueprint for rebuilding. Every judgement He ordains comes with a restoration plan.
