π¨ π’πππππππ: Statement from UEFA on FIFA overturning Folarin Balogun's one-match suspension:
"Yesterday's decision to suspend for a probationary period of a year the
implementation of the one-match automatic suspension following the red card issued to the player Folarin Balogun crossed a red line."
"Football, like any other sports, relies on rules, which are the basis for fair, honest and transparent competition. Sometimes rules are open to interpretation. In this case not."
"A minimum automatic suspension of one match following a red card is not a discretionary option and does not require the decision of a competent body to be enacted. It is a principle embedded in regulations, which cannot be made subject to exceptions, let alone in the middle of a tournament where several other players have been in the same situation and regularly served their suspension."
"When the certainty of rules is no longer guaranteed by its guardians, the integrity of the game is at stake and the credibility of a competition is undermined. Equally, such decision creates a precedent in the ongoing tournament, where similar situations will now require an equal treatment, to the detriment of the competition."
"Football is the most loved sport in the world because it is a beautiful game and is trusted because it is played everywhere with the same laws. A tournament is never a pure standalone and, if the tournament in question is the World Cup, it has the power to drive positive or negative consequences on the game as a whole."
"We express our disbelief at such an unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable decision."
FIFA are supposed to suspend countries whose politicians interfere in how the World Cup is managed.
Go for it Belgium. Take legal action Court of Arbitration in Sport, Switzerland, and US courts all at the same time.
Do it for the game.
Whether it is or isnβt a red to Balogun is now irrelevant. Government interference is a violation of FIFA Article 2 & 15, and the punishment is disqualification and suspension. #FIFAWorldCup
@mysecretsouls@ChrisMedlandF1 P.s. As a Brit. Until a few years ago I'd have said "reminder of what"? Your history is only a tiny part of our history and...we don't learn it. It's that unimportant. But, that said. Have a great day on the 4th, while we celebrate "lucky escape" day. π
@RonFilipkowski My local regiment is the reason it's painted white. If you like we could nip over and get rid of the gold? Be happy to help out if you can sort out invites.
@BBCSimonJack The high street isn't dead because of business rates. It's dead because it's not where people spending money want to be. It's not convenient. It's not cheap. It's never going to have the range of options, that people spending want. Convert 50% of it to housing to fix it.
@gridcustomersuk That's fine for now. But why's it so unreliable in general, and what's being done to resolve that. Prevention usually better than cure. Fix today, but what about tomorrow...
@gridcustomersuk I've never lived somewhere with so many power cuts every year. What's broken in Telford, and why can't you fix it permanently? We must be on for 5 or 6 a year over the last few years. It's tripped of/on 3 times this hour
@AgileHarvey@LmbrTchr82 Plus the women in the pic are in their race suits (or something approximating it). I'm not a young girl, but I suspect seeing women, in race gear, on/in a fancy magazine might just make me look at being a driver, a fan of motorsport.
