Philadelphia leaders keep talking about creating jobs, lowering the wage tax, eliminating the BIRT, and bringing new companies into Philadelphia.

But what about us — the private-property towing industry?

What about the towing companies that were already here, employing Philadelphia workers and serving property owners, apartment buildings, churches, supermarkets, shopping centers, and small businesses?

What about the drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, and sign installers who lost work and income after Bill 160682 imposed the ticket-to-tow requirement on private property?

What about their families?

And let's talk about accountability. Our industry is already heavily scrutinized. We photograph vehicles before we tow them. At Lew Blum Towing, we take at least eight photographs before hookup to document the vehicle, its location, and the posted towing signs.

We are also required to put complaint information on our towing signs telling people to call 311 if they have a complaint.

What other industry is required to advertise on its own signs how customers can file a complaint against it?

We are licensed, insured, required to have agreements with property owners, required to post signs, document our tows, and provide a public avenue for complaints. Yet City government added another obstacle — Bill 160682's ticket-to-tow requirement on private property.

We don't need Philadelphia to promise us new jobs. We want the opportunity to bring our jobs back.

End the ticket-to-tow requirement of Bill 160682 on private property. Give private property owners control of their property and allow properly licensed towing companies to do their jobs under clear rules and accountability.

Our industry can rehire workers, add new employees, support Philadelphia businesses and property owners, and generate additional revenue for the City.

You say Philadelphia needs jobs. We agree.

Another 12 hour shift in the books, it took a lot of black coffees to make it through but I did it. On my way to this gym while “men” that believe in 72 genders are trying to become relevant on my post. I’m going to try and do a TikTok live very late tonight, I have an awful lot of content to edit from previous ones. I’m on Dom Giordano tomorrow afternoon and I have a town hall to speak at later that night. I’ve literally ran out of time in a day. I literally just ate my first meal of the day, opportunities in my dm, and I got dragons to slay. I prayed for times like this, thank you Lord! 🦇🙏🏾
