Democratic leaders, including Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY), are facing criticism after postponing a vote to limit President Donald Trump’s war powers in Iran until mid-April, despite indications the measure now has enough support to pass.

Criticism is coming from progressive advocates, including Demand Progress, whose senior policy adviser told Common Dreams that the delay risks deeper U.S. involvement and more lives lost. Ryan Grim argued Meeks may be backing off precisely because the resolution now has the votes to pass, citing Drop Site’s reporting that some Democrats are reluctant to end a war that politically damages Trump.

Democratic aides deny the claims, saying they are working to secure votes and ensure members are present, according to Common Dreams.
