The only word you can use to describe Australia's economic recovery is #Spectacular. Maybe #BetterThanSpectacular. As we sit here today GDP is probably already above pre-Covid levels, unemployment is falling quickly, and markets are still facing a cocktail of super easy policy.
Regardless of who wins the US election now, the #US is going to be less different over the next four years than many people thought yesterday. 2016 needs to be accepted; it wasn't some sort of anomaly.
The main new info in yesterday's GDP data is not that #Australia is in recession, or that it is deep -- these were known. It is that #inequality (on one measure) has hit a new extreme. The wage share of income hit a record low. This will be the toughest legacy to unwind.
