On Friday , I was officially inaugurated as a member of the 12th Assembly of the @UnilorinSC as a second time Senator representing @Naasunilorin22
With deep gratitude and an unwavering sense of duty, I also had the honour of emerging as the Senate President.
“History remembers those who inherit institutions. Legacy remembers those who improve them.”
We have all lived the reality of a Union that sometimes feels distant from the very people it exists to serve. We have all asked, in one form or another, whether things can truly work better.
Building a better Students’ Union will not happen by accident. It will not come from noise or chance. It must be built deliberately. With clarity ,with structure , with discipline. And with a deep understanding of what students actually experience every day.
Because a Union that is truly responsive to our realities, committed to our welfare, and bold enough to shape a better future cannot be improvised. It must be designed.
This evening at 6:15PM , that design begins to take form.
Not as promises. Not as assumptions. But as an intentional declaration of what we believe a Students’ Union should become, and how we intend to build it with you.
Auspicious Unilorites, this is not just an announcement. It is an invitation to witness the beginning of something we intend to build together, brick by brick, value by value, decision by decision.
Join us as we formally declare our intention to pursue a future defined by clarity, responsibility, and a Better by Far Union worthy of a university ranked first in Nigeria, among the top in Africa, and counted among the leading universities in the world.
The future will not respond to wishful thinking. It responds to those willing to build it.
Tonight, we begin.
Every generation inherits a responsibility.
A responsibility not merely to enjoy the benefits of those who came before, but to build upon their sacrifices and leave behind something worthy of remembrance.
Today, with a deep sense of duty to our Union and an abiding belief in the possibilities of our student community, I, Ayanshina Olamilekan Sodiq, politically addressed as The Monarch, a 300 level student of the department of Sociology, faculty of Social Sciences, formally declare my intention to serve as the President of the Students' Union, University of Ilorin, for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving Unilorites in different capacities. Those experiences have taught me a simple lesson: our colleagues do not ask for perfection. They ask for leadership that listens, leadership that understands their realities, and leadership that is willing to work relentlessly in pursuit of solutions.
The CREST agenda powered by the INJECT core value of our institution
INJECT the CREST AGENDA for an Auspicious Legacy
Join the movement, Auspicious Colleague.
Students deserve leaders who listen, engage, and remain accessible before and after victory.
The future of student representation must be built on consistency, accountability, and service not epistles.
