Swaziland had already gained full independence from Britain nearly two decades earlier, in 1968.
King Mswati III rules as an absolute monarch, meaning his internal political power within his borders is total. By contrast, King Charles III rules as a constitutional monarch, meaning his political powers are strictly limited and symbolic.
What a great man . What a great visionary. A great musician. Actually when the Market Theatre opened a jazz bar in our precinct. It was Abdulla Ibrahim who suggested that it should be named Kippies Jazz Bar in honour of another great giant Kippie Moeketsi. RIP
It is based on a riddle to highlight incompatibility. If a bird and fish mate, where would they live? If they choose water, the bird will drown. If they choose air, the fish will die because it needs water.

On how Thaba Bosiu was made:
Mabuse: Every time I went to Lesotho, I would go to the village and ask if anybody plays lesiba. What was explained to me is that when you are a herdsman, your flock would be able to extricate itself from the rest because of the sound that you play and that thing had remained with me for 30 years, that one day I really wanted to record this instrument.
There are Basotho in Pimville, and every time these guys passed by, I would ask, "Batho ba modimo, ha le tsebe motho ya bapalang lesiba?" They brought Ntate Thabang to me. He started playing for me every day in the studio. We recorded it. That's how Thaba Bosiu was created. It's only now that people are responding. Remember, this was done 16 years ago.
[IN PICTURES] Visitors at the Hector Peterson Memorial exchanged their R2 coins for the new R2 commemorative circulation coin honouring the 1976 Youth Uprising. The commemorative coin, while special, carries the same value as ordinary R2 coins in circulation. Commemorative circulation coins serve as a tool for national storytelling because, as they move through communities, people can share these stories within their homes and at malls, taxi ranks and all places where money is used daily.
Quite sad that we don’t have a biography of Abdullah Ibrahim while he was still with us. I hope we’ll get one soon. His remarkable life is summarised in his website: https://t.co/4gjkNdmOm0
Sad that no one filled the void Barry Rongue left. There was a time when you looked forward to reading pop culture columns (any column actually). There’s no money to pay culture writers, everything is a press release or sponsored feature. So readers can’t sharpen their skills when it comes to engaging a body of work. It’s unfortunate.

I noticed something:
People who have traveled a lot tend to judge less. Not because they became nicer, but because they've seen too many versions of what's "normal."
In one country, it's normal to eat with your hands.
In another, it's normal to stay quiet at the table.
In a third, it's normal to hug strangers.
When you've seen 30 different versions of "the right way," you stop believing yours is the only one.
Travel doesn't just teach geography.
It teaches tolerance.
