The two passions Adam and I realized we shared almost immediately were sports and the news industry.
He dreamed of becoming a sports writer from an incredibly early age, creating handwritten sports newsletters and coding HTML websites about NBA players from his bedroom. My dad was the editor of our small-town newspaper, and I spent my summers pasting up classified pages with a wax machine and learning to process halftone photos in a darkroom.
Some of our favorite movies were about newsrooms breaking historic stories. We often joked that if we had been alive during the Westward Expansion, we would not have gone west. We probably would have stayed behind to run a small newsroom in Boston.
After Adam passed away in May, the very first thing I wrote on my to-do list, before funeral plans or closing accounts, was: “Figure out the future of https://t.co/5F3PKtdqoX.”
To some, it may be just a website—something I could let go of and move on with my life. But our shared belief in the power of journalism and creative storytelling is far too important for me to let it end here.
Today, I am incredibly proud to announce a new chapter for https://t.co/5F3PKtdqoX.
After many thoughtful conversations, BuffStampede will move forward as an independent sports news outlet under my leadership.
Adam spent 23 years building it into a trusted home for Colorado athletics coverage and a community grounded in curiosity, fairness, integrity and a genuine love for the Buffs.
Those values will continue to guide everything we do.
BuffStampede will remain a home for thoughtful, independent and impartial #CUBuffs coverage. It will also create meaningful opportunities for young journalists, photographers and storytellers to learn, build connections and develop their craft in the way Adam always believed they should.
None of this would be possible without @On3. This was a mutual decision made with respect, compassion and absolutely no friction. The On3 team has shown our family incredible grace and professionalism throughout this transition, and I am grateful that our relationship and friendship will continue through content collaboration and my photography this season.
The new https://t.co/5F3PKtdqoX will be online soon in a completely new format, but with familiar voices, recruiting and game-day coverage, a message board, photography, video, long-form storytelling, historical features, and ideas we have not even dreamed up yet. I can’t wait to share it with Buff Nation!
This is not about replacing Adam. No one ever could.
It is about honoring what he built by allowing it to continue growing with the integrity, generosity, innovation, and love that defined his career.
BuffStampede has never been just a website. It is a community, and I am so thankful that you have continued to show up for us and for one another.
