"Nude on the Stair"
I found this staircase before I found the pose: flaking green plaster, oxblood balusters worn down to bare wood, and a forgotten still life of flowers hanging above it all like a witness. My model does not climb and does not descend - she pauses, turned inward, her hair carrying the same warm rust as the railing beside her. I wanted the body to read as architecture here, a vertical line answering the diagonal of the steps, skin holding the only clean light in a room that has been decaying for decades. The painted flowers are my counterpoint: one form of beauty framed and fading on the wall, another standing alive in front of it, both temporary. I work in that narrow register between restraint and intimacy, where the viewer is allowed to look but never invited to intrude.

"Drapery in Red"
Her back turns away and her face returns to the viewer; that turn is the subject. I set the model in a room that is losing to time - worn plaster, old painted nudes on the wall, an oval mirror holding one pane of garden light. The red silk is the only saturated color here, and it falls the full height of the frame to tie her to the carpet. One window lights her from the side, so the room stays dark and her skin holds the light. I am not photographing nakedness - I am photographing posture, the way a model holds herself when she knows she is seen.
