Lung Ching, which directly translates to "Dragon Well", is said to have gotten its name after a well, which the light rainwater floating on the surface sometimes resembles the movement of a Chinese dragon 🐉
History: Lung Ching tea was granted the status of Gong Cha (Imperial Tea) in the Qing dynasty by Kangxi Emperor. According to legends, it was given status after the emperor's visit to the Hu Gong Temple at Lion Peak Mountain and was impressed after drinking a cup of Lung Ching!
Taste: Lung Ching tea is generally known to be complex and multi-layered. It is also subtly nutty and has a quenching, lingering finish.
P.S. A longer steeping period will result in a stronger taste, with an increase in tea’s astringency 🤔
Sight: Lung Ching teas have very distinctive appearance of flat, brittle green leaves. The leaves are usually firmly pressed continually with a machine, thereafter by hand against the hot surface of a wok. This results in a rich-green leaf colour tinged with a yellow-gold finish.
Smell: The pale, yellow liquid cup of tea holds the scent of freshly-mown lawn and chestnuts.
The initial scent of the dry leaves are rather strong in aroma. The second scent is slightly toasty and smoky. Upon sipping, the vegetal notes come through alongside the nutty aroma.
