"I love returning home in the dark, to see the lights of my house shining. Like astronauts feel returning from the moon, travelling through space towards a waiting world. Soon I will be home, part once more of the indoor world of light and warmth." ~C.R.Milne #christmaslights
A scene of breathtaking beauty looking over to Stirling's iconic National Wallace Monument 🏴. Captured by Stuart Mckay Photography 📸. #VisitScotland
Stirling Castle stands majestic against the blush of dawn this morning, its historic silhouette a testament to Scotland's storied past. As the frost whispers over the landscape, embracing the age-old gravestones with a delicate touch, the morning light bathes the scene in soft pastels. In the distance, the proud peaks of Stuc a'Chroin and Ben Vorlich rise—two mighty munros standing guard. This frozen moment captures the essence of Scottish beauty, a reminder of nature's quiet grandeur amidst our ever-moving world.

The Church of the Holy Rude is a stunning historical landmark located in Stirling, Scotland. It is the second oldest building in the city after Stirling Castle, which rises prominently nearby. This church is of significant historical importance as it has been the site of many notable events, including the coronation of King James VI of Scotland in 1567. Adjacent to it stands the Cowane's Hospital, an almshouse established in the 17th century by the merchant John Cowane. This picturesque scene, with its ancient gravestones and the warm glow of lights against the dawn light, captures a sense of the deep historical tapestry woven into the fabric of this Scottish city.
Mar's Wark, to the left of the Church of the Holy Rude in the photo, is a significant historical structure in Stirling, Scotland, with a fascinating history that complements its neighbors. It was commissioned around 1569 by the powerful Earl of Mar, John Erskine, who was the hereditary Keeper of Stirling Castle and a one-time Regent of Scotland during the minority of James VI. The construction of this magnificent townhouse began shortly after Mar was granted the keepership of Stirling Castle in 1567, and it was near completion by 1570, though it may not have been finished to its original plans due to Mar's death in 1572.
Known also as Mar's Lodging, this Renaissance-style mansion hosted King James VI and was later repaired to serve as a barracks during the 1715 Jacobite Rising. Despite its ruinous state today, the mansion's fine façade still stands, featuring a gatehouse with sculptures and matching semi-polygonal towers flanking the entrance, as well as intricate carvings, statues, and coats of arms.
Together with the Church of the Holy Rude and Cowane's Hospital, Mar's Wark forms part of the rich tapestry of Stirling's historical architecture, each building with its own story woven into the city's heritage.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them ♥️
