Solo dev working on Rogue Fable IV. A fast paced, turn based traditional roguelike. A massive scope and deep mechanics distilled into intense 60 minute runs.
@ShitpostRock2 I can say with almost absolute certainty that even if I started this game 1000 times (can't rem if loading a save puts you outside castle) I would look like the left side 100% of the time.
@tomfgoodwin Cans in the cupboard were a big favorite for my son. My 18 month old daughter is currently more than happy to take every spoon/spatula/cooking utensil out from the cupboard to 'cook'.
@Apogee_Ent Winter camping without a tent and building a Quinzhee to sleep in (I had to google spelling lol). That was some serious survival game vibes.
@ThePrimeagen@vinrambone Not sure if that is the same thing as 'learning' but there are def plenty of situations I've found like this where previously I'd have to spend a lot longer finding the answer to my how do I 'do X' question.
@ThePrimeagen@vinrambone I think it can specifically do the 100x learning thing when you don't actually want to learn the whole thing. You just need to know enough to 'do X thing'. Previously that might take a week to get up to speed. Now you can just kind of pin point the one thing.
@BeanJuiceStudio Self taught since my dad handed me his old ADnD books (the ones that look like fucking legit wizard tomes) at age 10 and was like: go nuts.
27 years passes fast...
@NoahMullins I think it will probably pan out like early dot com boom and bust. Stupidly overhyped and full of absurd nonsense but then 5-10 years later the world is still transformed.
@mrmikeMTL Probably the only one for me would be Everquest way back in early 2000s. And it was waaaay more than 1000 hours. Pretty sure my main had 100+ DAYS on him.
@DUSKdev Not 'never seen' but 'very rare' would be any sort of extremely asymmetric multiplayer game. A game where different players or groups of players are practically playing different games.
@erickstevens82 Lol I've got two myself and Titan Fall II 5-6 hour campaign was a whole week of 'heavy gaming'. As in I could game once a night for an hour (but not every night!).
@Marky_X_ Part of it for me is that its just 'pre vetted'. I have limited time to play games. I can take a chance on something new. Or I can just be like: hey what are the top 10 RTS games ever made? Chances are a lot of those are older.
@ceroribi Part of it is just bias. We remember the 1% slice of old games that were GoTY or genre defining. Basically S-Tier super mega global hits. And we forget the trash. So... so much trash.
@Rooflemonger I'm at the point where I either want an 'endless' game that I can pick up and poke at for 30 mins at a time or give me something like Titan Fall IIs campaign. 5-6 hours of face melting awsome and then its over.
@GavelGamer I'm totally not a JRPG player and yet I've replayed Chrono Trigger once every few years for the past 2 decades.
It helps massively that its so dense. Its just non stop quality for like 10-15 hours and then its done.
