President Tinubu has signed the Electoral Act 2026, and it removes certificate forgery as a ground for challenging election results at tribunals. Politicians can no longer be disqualified over fake credentials. But for hardworking Nigerians, submitting a fake certificate means job loss, blacklisting, and prosecution. For the political class, the rules are different. A double standard has been written into law, and the 2027 elections will be contested under this new reality.
WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES, ANOTHER OPENS: MY FIGHT AGAINST TINUBU'S PROTECTED CORRUPTION MOVES TO NEW GROUND
By Kio Amachree
Some months ago, I sat across from investigators at the UK Serious Fraud Office. I laid it all before them. The Lagos port contract signed between the British government and Nigeria, with Gilbert Chagoury once again handed a lucrative deal by his old friend Tinubu. I told them what they, astonishingly, did not know: that Chagoury holds British citizenship alongside his Lebanese and Nigerian identities, and whatever else his money has purchased. They did not know of his conviction for money laundering in Switzerland in connection with the Abacha loot. They did not know the depth of the decades-long relationship between Tinubu and the Chagourys.
After months of delay, the answer came back: there was nothing they could do.
My letters to the Prime Minister were ignored. My letters to the trade ministers were ignored. My letter to the King was ignored. And I drew the only conclusion available to a thinking man: Tinubu is protected by the British, who find him useful precisely because he is corrupt and easy to manipulate. They allowed him refuge on their shores during the Abacha years. Having sold his soul to the Americans in 1993, he sold what remained to the British, even publicly thanking King Charles for the police protection he enjoyed during his London exile.
The irony is not lost on me. My father, Chief Godfrey Kio Jaja Amachree QC, served the British Crown with distinction as Solicitor-General of Nigeria, as acting Attorney-General, and as Attorney-General of the British Cameroons. That history counted for nothing. Tinubu was more important to their interests.
But I did not stop. When one door is closed, another is open.
The same investigator at the Serious Fraud Office, noting my determination, directed me to another department entirely: the powerful forces that brought down Isabel dos Santos, once Africa's richest woman. The same authorities that froze over half a billion pounds of her assets, seized her British properties, and shut her out of the United Kingdom. That is where my file now sits. The ill-gotten properties connected to Tinubu and his son Seyi in the UK are squarely in my sights.
And the political weather has changed. The old government is gone. A new administration under has taken its place, and I will now wait and see what this fresh attempt yields against a corruption network that previous governments chose to ignore.
Meanwhile, another clock is ticking. Tomorrow, August 21, is the court-ordered deadline in Washington for the FBI and DEA to produce the drug files from Tinubu's American past, in the FOIA case before Judge Beryl Howell. The Americans, like the rest of Nigeria, are now fully up to speed on Tinubu's corruption and criminal history. The world is watching.
The doors keep opening. I keep walking through them.

UPDATE: Maryam has been remanded in Suleja Prison until August 31.
What makes this even more disturbing is that Maryam is a final year university student, scheduled to begin her final examinations this Saturday. A student who should be preparing to finish her degree is instead being locked behind bars. This is beyond cruel. It is a disgrace.
Nigerians what is your breaking point?
Those Seeking to be Addressed as “His Excellency” Must Behave Excellently
Yesterday, I joined other presidential candidates to sign the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 Presidential Elections.
My signing of the accord is a reinforcement of my continued commitment to insisting that we, as candidates, must conduct ourselves in a way that reflects the office we aspire to. Leaders must eschew all forms of violent rhetoric and rein in their followers to do the same.
The next elections must be strictly based on the issues that matter to Nigerians: unity, insecurity, pulling people out of poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, and restoring hope to the long-suffering people of our country.
Our supporters must see that we have all committed to free, fair, and credible elections based on issues and devoid of rancour.
Those of us wishing to be addressed as “His Excellency” must behave excellently, and, more importantly, the process of attaining public office must be excellent.
We take very seriously the commitment of INEC to free, fair, and credible elections, as well as the pledge by law enforcement agencies to remain unbiased throughout the electioneering process.
I call on my supporters to remain firm, determined, and peaceful.

"As we are heading for elections, politicians are already heading to the university communities to reach out to the academia. They are already reaching out to potential collation and returning officers."
I got a call from Abuja Yesterday, and I was asked to make a Disclaimer that the video I made was not political affiliated.
It may sound crazy but this is a public announcement to everyone and to my able governor @PNMbah.
I’m just an independent solo creator. I wasn’t paid or bribed by anyone. I’m not supporting anyone or neither against anyone . My video is very independent and all information is available on the media and internet. Nothing I said was secret is just unfortunate people are legally blind towards this.
@elonmusk said we are the media now. And that’s exactly what I did. Call it boredom or whatever but I’m just a girl seeking for accountability for my homeland. Charity begins at home that’s why i started from home.
I heard this video have caused some problems but that won’t stop me from holding my leaders accountable. I repeat I’m very solo and independent. I’m not a newscaster or journalist. I don’t know or in any contact with any opposition party candidate, I’m just a citizen so please can the investigations and warnings stop. Thank you all for reading this pls forward this to everyone as well.
This message is my official statement. I will be putting disclaimer henceforth in my next video. Thank you all.
@UgwunnaEjikem I don't think this is a proper argument. Bad leaders are our first problem, but a lot of ground-work goes into maintaining this edifice of stupidity.
There are so mang strings being pulled. Nigeria will be great - the Jig is almost up!
