Saltford Manor (built around 1148) is the oldest continuously inhabited house in the UK. 🇬🇧

People were sleeping in these bedrooms while the Crusades were happening. It survived the Black Death, the English Civil War, and WWII.

Inside, there are 13th-century wall paintings hidden behind plaster and a Norman window matching Hereford Cathedral.

The wildest part? It’s not a museum. The 900-year old house is still a private family home today. Imagine making morning coffee in a house that was around when Norman knights were plotting battles. 🤯

In 1944, four-year-old Jane received a rare party invitation, but her only formal dress no longer fit. Because clothing coupons were strictly rationed during the war, her mother, Elizabeth, had no way to buy a new one.

Determined not to let Jane miss the event, Elizabeth spent the night sewing. She gathered all the fabric scraps she had stored away—floral cottons, plain swatches, and small patterned prints—and stitched them together, square by square.

By morning, she had finished a complete patchwork dress. Jane wore it to the party, turning leftover scraps and wartime shortages into a practical, handmade garment that is now preserved in the V&A collection.
