A 16-year-old lifeguard charged into towering waves off Santa Cruz County to save a struggling swimmer.

With “gorilla grip,” he held the boy from getting swept back out. Another bystander rushed in to help as they battled the surf and brought him safely ashore.

It was 1 of 25+ water rescues Saturday as massive swells battered the coast.
