The mistake a lot of people make in dismissing this AI doomsday debate is they think AI is just "lines of Code" that a software engineer can just go in and change.

AI might have started as code, but modern AI systems are "trained", not programmed rule by rule. Training creates neural networks containing billions of learned parameters; (which presents as billions if not trillions of numbers patterns and relationships that no engineer sat down and individually wrote).

Engineers design the architecture, training process and guardrails, but they cannot simply open the code, find the line that says “do X” and replace it with “do Y.”

It should scare you when you hear them say "We don't know how these numbers work".

Pastor Sunday Adelaja was once a champion of possibilities in the global Church.

His story inspired a generation.

A Nigerian-born black man went into Eastern Europe and built what was described as one of the largest evangelical churches in Europe, filled predominantly with white Europeans.

He demonstrated something many people had never imagined possible.

He became a case study.

Pastors and ministers across the world studied his ministry, his leadership, his creativity and his ability to build a multicultural church in a place where Christianity had a very different historical and cultural expression.

For many Africans, Sunday Adelaja was proof that the colour of your skin does not have to determine the size of your influence.

But then came the difficult years.

His ministry became surrounded by serious controversies, including allegations concerning financial dealings and later allegations concerning sexual relationships. Some of these allegations were denied or disputed by Adelaja, but the controversies undeniably affected his ministry and relationships with other Christian leaders. (J

And this is where the story becomes a warning.

Because sometimes the greatest threat to a man’s future is not the enemy outside.

It is the inability to preserve the character that carried him to the place of influence in the first place.

Over time, Pastor Sunday also became increasingly critical of prominent Nigerian Pentecostal leaders and patriarchs of the faith. His public criticisms of men such as Pastor E.A. Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and Pastor Paul Enenche became part of the public story surrounding his later ministry.

And I find that deeply sobering.

You can disagree with another minister.

You can challenge doctrine.

You can expose what you genuinely believe is wrong.

But there is a way to disagree without destroying honour, without insults and name calling.

There is a way to correct without becoming contemptuous.

There is a way to separate yourself without spending the rest of your ministry attacking the people who came before you.

Then came the war in Ukraine.

The war forced Adelaja to leave Ukraine, where he had spent decades building his ministry. In 2022, he fled the country as the Russian invasion began and eventually settled in Belgium. He has said that his Ukrainian ministry still had hundreds of branches, although the war scattered a large portion of its membership around the world.

And suddenly, the man who had built so much in Ukraine was living outside the country that had become the centre of his life’s work.

The Nigerian Church that should be his home, a succor and support, he already insulted the custodians of the Nigerian Church.

That part of the story should make every minister pause.

Because ministry can be built in one generation and still be lost in another.

Buildings can disappear.

Congregations can scatter.

Institutions can collapse.

Influence can diminish.

But the greatest tragedy is not losing an institution.

The greatest tragedy is losing the man while building the ministry.

This is why I believe every man of God who rises must deliberately guard three things:

Character.
Relationships.
Humility.

Never become so successful that you stop listening.

Never become so influential that correction becomes an insult.

Never become so convinced of your revelation that every other servant of God becomes an enemy.

Never allow your gift to become bigger than your character.

Never allow the platform to become more important than the person standing on it.

And never forget the people God used to help you become who you are.

The tragedy of many great men is not that they never rose.

It is that they rose higher than their character could safely sustain.

So when you see someone who has fallen, don’t mock them.

Learn.

When you see someone who has risen, don’t merely celebrate them.

Pray for them.

Because today’s platform can become tomorrow’s testimony.
