The Students Federation of India led a militant protest march to the Ministry of Education in New Delhi today demanding the immediate resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, scrapping of the National Testing Agency, decentralization of examinations, independent judicial probe into the NEET and CBSE scams, punishment of all culprits, and fair compensation for all affected students. Hundreds of students from different states resolutely marched forward despite the heavy deployment of police forces and barricades along the march route by the Delhi Police, raising slogans against the anti-student policies of the BJP-RSS-led government and demanding accountability for the unprecedented collapse of educational governance under Dharmendra Pradhan's tenure.
A four member delegation comprising SFI All India General Secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya, President Aadarsh M Saji, Joint Secretary Aishe Ghosh and Vice President Shilpa proceeded to the Ministry of Education and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and highlighting the severe crisis confronting students across the country. The delegation emphasized that recurring paper leaks, examination irregularities, arbitrary administrative decisions, and the government's failure to ensure transparency and accountability have severely undermined the credibility of the education system.
The delegation also issued a clear ultimatum stating that if Dharmendra Pradhan fails to resign and if the Government of India does not address the demands raised by students across the country, SFI will intensify its agitation until justice is secured for all affected students. The protesters resolved to mobilize students nationwide in the coming weeks and to strengthen the struggle on the streets in order to defend students’ rights and save public education.
US imperialism strikes again. US forces attack a commercial oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, killing 3 Indian sailors in cold blood. This is the second such attack reported within two days.
Yet the MEA's statement doesn't even name the US as the perpetrator! While Indian lives are lost, Modi is busy thanking Trump and hailing the "India-US strategic partnership."
Shameless subservience!
We strongly condemn this illegal US attack and the Government's complete abdication of India's sovereignty and duty to protect Indian citizens. The government must issue a strong condemnation and demand full accountability for the loss of Indian lives. It should intervene and pressurise the US to stop its attacks in West Asia and withdraw the blockade near the Strait of Hormuz and ensure free navigation.
Nobody is asking Rahul Gandhi to hug Pinarayi Vijayan. On the contrary all that we are asking is that he stop being a facilitator for the ED and the Modi government by demanding the arrest of Pinarayi Vijayan and other opposition leaders. That is not the job of the Leader of the Opposition.
Today marks the 117th birth anniversary of Comrade EMS, one of the foremost leaders of the Communist movement in India, one of the founding leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and one of the most influential communist thinkers of the country and the world.
After leaving college in 1931 to join the freedom struggle, Comrade EMS devoted nearly seven decades to building the progressive and working class movement in India. A brilliant Marxist theoretician and a prolific writer, he made outstanding contributions to the application of Marxism-Leninism to Indian society and to working out the strategy and tactics of the Indian revolution. He served as the General Secretary of the undivided Communist Party from 1962-64 and of the CPI(M) from 1978 to 1992.
EMS represented the coming together of the two streams of the independence movement, the anti-imperialist and the anti-feudal struggles, which laid the foundations for the development of a powerful communist movement in Kerala. He was one of the key proponents of Aikya Keralam, which led to the formation of Kerala as a unified linguistic state in 1956. He served twice as the Chief Minister of Kerala, heading the first elected Communist ministry until it was dismissed undemocratically in 1959 and later leading a United Front ministry from 1967-69, thereby paving the way for the state's progressive transformation.
EMS lived a life of sacrifice and simplicity, spending three years in jail and six years underground. His leadership in rallying Left, democratic, and secular forces was invaluable. Comrade EMS set an example that has inspired tens of thousands of communists across the country.
Red Salute, Comrade!
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the All India Kisan Sabha led an agitation on 10 June in Palghar district of Maharashtra, blocking the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway at Talasari, in protest against the BJP-led state government over the inadequate farm loan waiver and the stay given to the Devasthan (Temple Trusts) Land Bill. Over 500 activists, including women, took part in the agitation, with the main demands of cancelling all oppressive conditions attached to the farm loan waiver, ensuring the liberation from debt of toiling farmers, withdrawing the stay on the Devasthan Land Bill, and immediately vesting Devasthan and Inam lands in the names of the peasants cultivating them.
The agitation was led by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and All India Kisan Sabha President Ashok Dhawale, Polit Bureau member Mariam Dhawale, Central Committee member Vinod Nikole, Maharashtra State Secretariat member Kiran Gahala, and other senior leaders.
We remember Birsa Munda, legendary adivasi leader, freedom fighter and warrior against feudal landlords, on the 126th anniversary of his martyrdom. We take inspiration from his anti-colonial legacy and uncompromising fight for adivasi control over jal, jangal and jamin. Ulgulan Zindabad!
The brutal assault and subsequent arrest of CPI(M) Central Committee member Sujan Chakroborty, SFI General Secretary Srijan Bhattacharya and other comrades by the police and the illegal eviction of hawkers outside the premises of Jadavpur station in Kolkata last night deserves the highest condemnation.
Prime Minister Modi had no inhibitions while stopping for a photo-op to to eat jhalmuri during the election campaign in West Bengal. Post elections, the state government run by his party is on a demolition spree, evicting hundreds of hawkers who sell jhalmuri and other snacks, meals, beverages and everyday goods to thousands of customers daily.
The West Bengal government should immediately withdraw from this diabolical attack against the livelihood of working class families and communities. The Left parties and trade unions will fight unitedly against the bulldozer attacks under the cover of the dark. Not An Inch Back!
Member of Parliament John Brittas, leader of the CPI(M)'s Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha, speaks about the discussions on the emerging political situation at yesterday’s INDIA bloc meeting and the issue raised by General Secretary M A Baby in his letter to INC President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the baseless allegations and accusations made against the CPI(M) by senior Congress leaders during the Kerala Assembly election campaign.
The privatization of food grain storage under the Food Corporation of India and the removal of an anti-monopoly clause, leading to an emerging duopoly by the Adani Group and Leap India, is an attempt by the Modi government to bring in through the back door what they failed to achieve through the three farm acts. This will have serious consequences for food security in the coming days.
- CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and All India Kisan Sabha General Secretary Vijoo Krishnan
