Magnus Douglas Nicholson was born on this day, 18th June, 1871. He played for Oswestry, Bedford, West Brown, Crouch End, Luton Town and helped launch the game in Austria. Thanks to Bedford Old Eagle for his research. https://t.co/eCqKqAWHOt
@HattersHeritage Leicester Fosse until 1919. Our second away game was v Newton Heath, now Man United but played at Bank Lane, Clayton. We won 2 1, the only away victory against them.
@moreofaswimmer1@LewisT_Williams We need a pace man to cover across the back so Mengi fits. Odoffin was one of the keys to our resurgence so I hope we keep him too.
@SpencerVignes@AberystwythTown Absolutely. They talk about goal keepers being mavericks, a breed apart etc on the pitch and I think Leigh helped establish that tag...and he was similar off the pitch. My favourite ever goal keeper and thank you for your wonderful work.
Some photos not seen (that I know of) for over 120 years. QPR 1 Luton Town 2 played on the 11th March 1905 at Park Royal in Southern League Division One. See the match report at https://t.co/SSN8yzvOzE I'm sure these photos will be uploaded shortly.
@HattersHeritage The Pink 'un had been around since 1893. They were sold out of Park Square and on Saturday evenings the paper boys were mobbed as soon as they came out of the building.
@HattersHeritage It was our first competitive win having lost the first game in the F.A. Cup the previous 3 seasons - no league until 1894 (Southern League) and no other cup competitions until 1889 (the Kettering Charity Cup.)
@HattersHeritage November 1889, LTFC v St. Albans at Dallow Lane - "F. Whitby.. endeavoured to add to the count, the last named missing an easy chance through being blinded by smoke of a passing engine."
Just for fun, an anthem loosely based on the tune popular after the First World War - "We're a Jolly Lot of Fellows.."
🎵For we come from Luton Town,
where they burnt the Town Hall down🎵
