Since sharing that message on Sunday, Canadian Chef Mathieu Masson-Duceppe has confirmed to the Jamaica Observer that more than 65 volunteers — including chefs, cooks and helpers — have already joined the effort. A GoFundMe has also been launched and has so far raised US$1,105 to help feed communities expected to be hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa.

The team’s mission is simple: prepare thousands of warm meals for families who may lose access to food and supplies. They’re still accepting more cooks, dishwashers, and donations — because as Chef Mathieu says, “Any help is good help.”

Chef Duceppe was the Chopped Canada Season 2 winner and executive chef of Montreal restaurants Jellyfish Crudo et Charbon and the Pubjelly.
