The spirit of patriotism filled Hill View Stadium as we celebrated the 80th Independence Day with grandeur and pride.
The day began with the ceremonial parade led by the dedicated CISF contingents, FMS team, NCC & Scouts of SVM School, followed by hoisting National Flag by our Chief Guest Shri M R Gupta, Director (Mining), SAIL.

Inauguration of Two-Classroom Building at Government Higher Secondary School, Pagalpatty under CSR scheme of Salem Steel Plant.
A two-classroom building constructed under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme of the Steel Authority of India Limited, Salem Steel Plant was inaugurated by Shri N Varadarajan, Chief General Manager (Finance & Accounts), Salem Steel Plant on 08.07.2026 at Government Higher Secondary School, Pagalpatty, Salem District.
The function was also graced by Shri K. Nagarajan, General Manager (CSR), along with school teachers and students, who actively participated in the inauguration ceremony.
The newly constructed classroom block is intended to strengthen educational infrastructure and provide improved learning facilities for students in the region.
This initiative reflects the commitment of Salem Steel Plant under SAIL’s CSR programmes towards community development, particularly in the areas of education and skill enhancement.
The new classrooms are expected to create a better learning environment and benefit students through improved space, infrastructure, and academic support facilities.

Certificate Distribution Ceremony for Skill Development Programme
The Certificate Distribution Ceremony for the Skill Development Programme was held at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Salem. The programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Salem Steel Plant (SSP), was implemented through Government ITI with the objective of equipping unemployed youth with industry-relevant skills and enhancing their employability and future career opportunities.
The event was graced by Shri Shailendra Kumar, Chief General Manager (Mills & Services), as the Chief Guest and Shri K. Nagarajan, General Manager (GA, PR & CSR), Salem Steel Plant. Addressing the gathering, the General Manager (CSR) emphasized the importance of skill development in today’s rapidly evolving industrial landscape and encouraged students to continuously upgrade their knowledge and competencies to remain future-ready.
During the programme, students proudly showcased the projects and practical work they had completed as part of their training, demonstrating the technical knowledge and hands-on skills acquired throughout the course.
A total of 80 students successfully completed training in the following skill development courses:

·Advanced Plumbing
·Robotics CO₂ Welding
Certificates were distributed to all participants who successfully completed the courses. The ceremony was followed by an insightful guest lecture delivered by the Chief General Manager (Mills & Services), who shared valuable perspectives on industry expectations, technological advancements, and career growth opportunities.
The Skill Development Programme stands as a meaningful initiative towards creating opportunities, building competencies, and empowering the next generation of skilled professionals, thereby contributing to sustainable community development and nation-building.
12th International Day of Yoga 2026
Steel Authority of India Limited, Salem Steel Plant proudly celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation.
The programme was graced by the esteemed presence of the Executive Director, Chief General Managers, HoDs, HoSs, Principal of SVM School & Employees.
The event reflected Salem Steel Plant's continued commitment towards promoting health, wellness, and a balanced lifestyle through the timeless practice of yoga.
The event highlighted the significance of yoga as an ancient Indian practice that promotes physical fitness, mental well-being, and inner harmony.
The ceremonial lamp was lit by the dignitaries, marking the beginning of the celebrations.
The yoga session was conducted by Shri J. Nagaraju, Yoga Instructor, SVM School (CBSE), along with student demonstrators Master M. Mathi Sudhan (Class VII-A) and Miss K. Akshita (Class VIII-B).
Participants enthusiastically took part in the Common Yoga Protocol, engaging in various breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and meditation practices in alignment with this year's International Day of Yoga theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing."
The session highlighted the transformative role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental resilience, emotional balance, and overall well-being. It also emphasized the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life to enhance flexibility, improve concentration, reduce stress, strengthen immunity, and support healthy ageing through a holistic approach to health and wellness.
In recognition of their valuable contribution to the successful conduct of the programme, the Executive Director presented mementoes to Shri J. Nagaraju, Yoga Instructor, SVM School (CBSE), and the student demonstrators Master M. Mathi Sudhanand Miss K. Akshita.
The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to embracing yoga as a way of life. Salem Steel Plant encourages everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily routine for a healthier body, a calmer mind, and a more balanced life.

SAIL CSR - Nutritional Kit Distribution
Expanded Reach (100 Kits Distributed): 50 kits were distributed directly to beneficiaries at Salem General Hospital. To ensure we reach those in surrounding areas, an additional 50 kits were allocated and dispatched to our satellite units in Attur and Omalur.
Nutritional Security: Each mother was provided with a carefully curated, one-month supply of high-protein foods, including various lentils, dates, and other essential dietary materials.
Leadership and Support: We wish to express our profound gratitude to Shri K Nagarajan, General Manager of SAIL Salem Plant, for driving this noble CSR initiative and taking the time to personally address the beneficiaries. We also extend our sincere thanks to our Guest of Honour, Dr. Muthurajan (MD & Founder, NAAM Hospital), for his presence and invaluable medical insights.

30,000 tonnes of DMR 249 Grade steel went into building INS Vikrant, India's first indigenous aircraft carrier.
Supplied by SAIL, this special marine-grade steel helped shape the carrier's hull, flight deck, and key structural components—demonstrating India's capabilities in advanced steelmaking and naval engineering.

Distribution of essential nutrition's supplement

Nutritional kits were distributed to poor patients (Expectant Mothers diagnozed with PV HIV) in Salem General Hospital today. The kit contains high protein food materials containing lentils etc. with supplies lasting for one whole month. This is a noble CSR Initiative by Steel Authority Of India Salem Plant implemented by Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Salem Charitable Dispensary.
A total of 100 poor patients are benefitted every month.

Celebration of the 135th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (2026)
The 135th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, was celebrated with great fervour and grandeur at the SAIL-Salem Steel Plant (SSP). The celebrations were organized over several days and comprised a blend of academic, sports, and cultural activities, reflecting a holistic tribute to his enduring legacy.
1. Pre-Event Competitions and Sports Activities
The celebrations commenced on 5th April 2026 with a series of creative competitions aimed at encouraging community participation.
Creative Arts Competitions:
A Rangoli competition was organized for housewives of employees & CISF Personnel. In addition, drawing competition was conducted for students of Sri Vidya Mandir (SVM) School and School students of employees studying in other schools covering participants from LKG to Class XII. Also, Fancy Dress competition for KG Students was conducted. These events provided a platform to showcase the participants’ creativity and talent. Participation prizes were distributed on the spot to encourage all contestants.
Sports Activities:
The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Cricket Tournament–2026 was conducted from 9th to 12th April 2026, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie among the participating teams.
2. Celebrations at the Stainless Culture Centre Open Auditorium.
Cultural Programmes were held on 13th April 2026 at the Open Auditorium.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Meritorious Service Awards – 2025, which recognized and honoured employees for their outstanding performance, dedication, and contribution to the organization.
This was followed by a formal prize distribution ceremony for the winners and runners-up of the cricket tournament and Rangoli, drawing & Fancy Dress competitions.
Also, the audience was further enthralled by a captivating performance by a professional orchestra.
3. Floral Tribute and Formal Observance
On the morning of 14th April 2026, the celebrations assumed a solemn and devotional tone with the rendering of bhajans.
Shri R K Bisare, Executive Director (SSP), along with Chief General Managers, HoDs, senior officials, representatives of various unions and Associations, paid floral tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar statue located at the Stainless Cultural Centre.
The celebrations were conducted successfully and stood as a fitting tribute to the ideals, vision, and invaluable contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar towards building an inclusive and equitable society.

Fit India Office Olympics

Cycling Rally

As part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, Salem Steel Plant took initiative by organizing Drawing, Essay Writing, Elocution, and Waste to Wealth competitions for school children at SVM School from 17th to 20th March 2026. The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, highlighting the importance of nurturing awareness and responsibility from a young age.
Anti-Single-Use Plastic Drive
Reducing single-use plastic is essential for protecting our environment and ensuring a cleaner future. Small changes in daily habits can lead to a big impact.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, Salem Steel Plant carried forward this initiative by conducting Awareness Drive against single-use plastics on 21st March 2026 across the SSP Township.The activity involved distribution of pamphlets to residents, emphasizing the need for eco-friendly practices and sustainable living.

Quenching Thirst, Spreading Kindness
Event Name: Summer Water Feed for Birds & Pets

As the summer heat intensifies, our feathered friends and domestic animals often struggle to find clean drinking water. In a heartfelt initiative led by the Salem Steel Ladies Circle, we have launched a "Water Feed" campaign to support local biodiversity.
Our President, Dr. Amita Bisare, led the team—including Secretary Mrs. Sangeetha, Joint Secretary Mrs. Anamika, Vice President Mrs. Revathi, and Committee members Mrs. Navya and Mrs. Ramya.
The team was also supported by Mrs. Kamal Priya (AGM/WCE), Mr. Saravanan (Senior Operator), and Mr. Nandakumar (Supervisor, Civil). Together, they placed strategically designed water containers across the township’s green belts, aligning with SAIL’s broader CSR mission of environmental sustenance.
The Township Administration and the Horticulture Department played a vital role in this initiative, with Mrs. Kamal Priya (AGM, WCE) key to coordinating the CSR efforts. The team installed water bowls at approximately 20–25 key locations, providing a lifeline for peacocks, dogs, cows, birds, and monkeys during the scorching summer.
Thereby we Support Ecosystem, Protect and maintain the local bird and animal populations.
This small act of kindness was highly appreciated by the local community.

Salem steel ladies circle Women's Day Celebration on 08.03.2026 at Bharathi Arangam
International Women's Day was celebrated with a great enthusiasm. The event aimed to promote gender equality and acknowledge the vital role women play in our community.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by our President Smt.Dr.Amita Bisare followed by a prayer song.
Our guest of honour, Executive Director R.K. Bisare, was given a warm welcome with a rose bouquet, followed by an inspiring speech on women's empowerment and the achievements of Salem Steel Plant.
After a screening of Madam's achievements, she delivered an inspiring and motivating speech that left the audience amazed.
On this occasion, a few mothers were honoured for their dedication and resilience in raising their children successfully despite difficult circumstances. Special recognition was also given to single mothers who work as daily wage earners and are striving hard to provide good education for their children. The first uniformed services woman from Cuddalore was also honoured during the ceremony.
A major highlight was the cultural segment where SVM CBSE School students showcased their talents through dance performances, and speech on English and Tamil.
The PowerPoint presentation, which showcased the various stages of our Ladies Circle memories, was very touching. The children’s folk dance, the women executives' dance, the girls' group dances, the solo singing, and the stage play were all very entertaining and well-received by the audience.
In honour of the guests, mementos were presented to all of them. All the members, participants, and guests were served small refreshments as a token of appreciation.
The celebration was a resounding success, fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual respect. It served as a powerful reminder that empowering women is essential for a progressive society. The event concluded with a vote of thanks.

As part of the International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations, women employees of Salem Steel Plant (SSP) actively participated in an online interaction with the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) and Directors of SAIL on 07 March 2026.
The programme was organized to recognize the invaluable contributions of women employees across various units of SAIL and to encourage greater participation of women in organizational growth and leadership.
At Salem Steel Plant, the interaction was arranged at the HRDC Board Room, where Executive Director, Salem Steel Plant, joined the session along with women employees from different departments. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from both executive and non-executive women employees, reflecting the strong presence and growing role of women in the plant’s workforce.
During the interaction, the Executive Director, SSP appreciated and encouraged the women employees for their dedication, commitment, and significant contributions to the progress and performance of Salem Steel Plant.
