So... I actually got a lot of responses! Which is crazy, especially with how many people were so civil about it! It's honestly downright plesant! Either way since a lot of the answers I got are pretty much identical, I figured I might as well make one big response to wrap it up!

For those wondering, it's actually not ragebait. Not sure why that's people's first assumption really, but I genuinely, legitimately don't get the hype around her. I don't understand why Ironmouse is being held up as this... icon and paragon of Vtubing when by all accounts, she hasn't actually done anything significant or noteworthy for the medium or the Vtubers in it.

Most of the answers I've gotten basically point out how she's the top indie Vtuber on Twitch, her illness and how she's an inspiring underdog success story. That's all fair and undeniable... but those are personal achievements and not actually something she did for the medium and other Vtubers.

The one thing a few people did point out that qualifies as an answer to my question is Ironmouse's work to 'bridge the gap' between Vtubers and regular mainstream streamers... which arguably has done far more harm than good for the medium, considering the direct consenquence of that was the erosion of identity and culture of the medium as a whole to the point it's now indistinguishable from regular streaming. When anything and everything is a Vtuber, nothing is a Vtuber. It's just a streamer with extra steps.

Yeah, she helped attracting sponsors and money into the medium... but let's be real, only she and her compatriots who were big enough actually benefitted from that in any way. Most mortals won't ever get any sponsors or any deals like that.

Yeah, she helped out the few artists and riggers and basically cultivated the entire industry... which is why most of us need to take a bank loan and sell a kidney to afford a model now.

Yeah, her charities are incredibly succesful! But plenty of other people do charities too so it's not like it's something really unique in any shape or form in this space. Literally every sizeable Vtuber does charity streams at this point.

Basically, a lot of what people pointed out that she did for the medium sounds nice on paper... but there's a ripple effect that kind shows the opposite. Honestly, it's a very interesting topic to discuss and pretty controversial all things considered with how opinions differ around it.

So in the end I still don't get the hype. I get why people like her, that's obvious! Her story is actually inspiring. But I don't understand why she's seen as some kind of leader and authority in this space when by all accounts, she hasn't actually done anything overall beneficial for the space, at least in my personal opinion. The reasons people like her don't really explain why she's viewed this way or justify it.

Maybe it's because I'm someone who values action more than the emotional component, but just being inspirational is not enough to warrant this level of worship and attachment of authority in my opinion. We've got plenty of Vtubers who are disabled and yet still persevere and do their best as a content creator. We've got Vtubers who beat cancer against all odds. We've got such a variaty of people who faced adversity and rose despite that... but none of them are put on a pedestal like this.

She certainly doesn't seem to care for the space either considering lately she seems more interested in trying to break out of it entirely to join and be accepted by the big IRL Twitch streamer cliques.

Judging by all the answers I've gotten... I think I can safely sum it up as regular old idol worship. Which is amusingly ironic considering how much time this space has spent on vilifying anything and everything related to idol culture but apparently there are always exceptions.
