Yo, I've noticed people tend to be nervous about constructive criticism. So I thought I'd make an art help thread since I actually have formal training in this!
(Permission to use example granted by @BidulesTruc, thank you!)
Now buckle up kids its gonna be long 😎✨

@benedict_rs Visual artists study masters and sometimes copy their work before developing their own style, just as musicians play the music of others before composing their own.
When I was a kid, I made up vast, intricate stories about characters from TV, film, and comics. Now I'm a writer.
@NoComplicado@FoldableHuman A good sex scene, by that logic, should be sexy/romantic/intimate while moving the narrative forward.
Lots of sex scenes aren't what i'd define as "good," but that's a quality of execution rather than an inherent property of sex scenes.
@Nessagirl07@chancefisher20 @_M_Piper @JoeBiden In Utah even if you don't have ID you CAN request a provisional ballot at the polls today. Ask them to tell you how to follow up and you may have time to get the documents you need after you cast your provisional ballot. ACLU hotline 866-OUR-VOTE might help!
@Kammie_ka_Z @VoteDarlene @UtahGov Hi Kammie, I'm a volunteer for ACLU of Utah. Thanks for voting! Have you tried to check whether your ballot was received on https://t.co/PbTpt0A6oS? You may already have done that, but it's a good tool if not :)
Something I've learned while in law school is about the social construction of crime. I work in a legal clinic on wage theft cases, where employers have "improperly paid" workers by not paying, paying below min wage, withholding overtime, paid sick time, etc. 1/
i love it when writers are like “buhhh i should just write ROMANCE, it would be so much EASIER” as though writing a good sex scene isn’t the hardest and most terrifying thing they could ever attempt in their whole fiction-writing lives
#WritingCommunity:
I just read another article advocating for the “Show, don’t tell” advice you tend to hear a lot. Tell me... do you agree or disagree with this advice? Why?

As I write the outline for this #darkfantasy novel, I can't help but realize how all my plot and fight scene inspiration, consciously or unconsciously, comes from Avatar the Last Airbender.
#ATLA, still the greatest show ever.
@JulianThePoet @JessRiz@whimsicallyours@HenryHolt @Brian_Geffen @CosturaCreative Congrats! I'd read the heck outta that, guess I have to wait to buy it!!
Twice this year I've been asked about a question of the format "May you [insert task]?" For example: "May you edit this memo before I send it?" "May you meet with me tomorrow?" I'd never heard this usage before. Are others of you encountering it, and do you know its origins?
@grammartable It sounds wrong to my gut, but that doesn't mean anything but "do more research." "May I?" is common, but...
It also sounds fine as a statement/wish instead of a question: "May you have good fortune."
Is there a rule that says it could be used only in those contexts?
