'lo, cybernauts. Not sure if anyone still uses this, but on the off-chance: I wrote a blog post for Fantasy/Animation. It's here: https://t.co/OAZDPtcOII.
'evening, cybernauts. I'm still around. The lovely folks at @filmexplorer_ch asked me to write something about Pierre Földes' take on Murakami's short stories and his overall approach to animation. You can read the piece here: https://t.co/dQ9BptBTTu #animation#murakami
'Tipografic majuscul' was my second dip into Radu Jude's work. It led me to a long chat with @raluca_aff and two or three reflections on history, mediation and courage (which you can find here: https://t.co/PkTAfhdbG1)
in the meantime, the bright young owls over at @filmexplorer_ch have shipped me to Gèneve via the interwebs, to watch & scribble about a few gems from the Independent @BlackMovie_Fest
Sorry 'bout the radio silence, folks. My Harryhausen retrospective proceeds at a leisurely place, despite life and all the rest. Smoke signals will follow, I promise.
Cybernauts! I have embarked on a small Ray Harryhausen retrospective, to celebrate the launch of the new exhibition at @NatGalleriesSco. Keep an eye on these frequences: tales of daring, mystery and wonderment are a-coming.
.. and if after this magnificent feast you're still hungry for more animation, well, you can always take a look at my in-depth coverage of the 2020 @annecyfestival from August, published on Film Criticism: https://t.co/LrMZXX5Kwq
from @fantoche_baden I also recommend Adrien Merigeau's Genius Loci: a formally bold piece, jazz-like piece of urban poetry whose images are so rich & mesmerising you can quite easily lose yourself in the visual rhythm of the film.
@TheodoreUshev 's The Physics of Sorrow is a masterpiece of modernist technique and humanist ethos, blending poignant memories and pithy one-liners to adapt a novel by one of today's literary giants. Do yourself a favour and don't miss it.
And if you are in the mood for more animation, well, you're in luck. Earlier this fall I caught a couple of gems at the Fantoche festival in Baden--here is the full coverage, also from from @filmexplorer_ch, which includes two pieces I wrote: https://t.co/ykT7rRnzHc
My personal faves were Xi Chen's The Six, Caibei Cai's Half Asleep and Sun Xun's Tear of Chiwen.
You can find my short reviews (and links to some of the films) on the ever excellent pages of @filmexplorer_ch : https://t.co/ukqymotpxy
cybernauts! Two weeks ago I had the chance to home-attend the famed @KurzfilmtageWIN festival of short films in Switzerland. It was, predictably, a cinematic cornucopia--and personally, an opportunity to catch up with Chinese & Sinophone animation.
to kick things off, I am going to review a few things from the glorious @annecyfestival over at @sushiettibili in the upcoming week or so. Expect bubbles to appear here, too.
