We combined TraDIS and metabolomics to identify new genes required for growth in human urine by multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli ST131 in a study led by @pmduy in collaboration with @KapplerUlrike and @MetaboHorst https://t.co/WsSKcALC6H
Very excited to share our work on NMEC led by @nhunguyen2811 (under review by eLife). We highlight that even with appropriate antibiotic treatment, causative NMEC that resides intestinally might not be eliminated and can cause relapse.

(2/3) #PresenterSpotlight Meet @pmduy, a senior postdoctoral Research Fellow in the @LabSchembri at the University of Queensland 🇦🇺 . Their submission is the result of an incredible international collaboration with @jay_salsa 🇬🇧 and @jaitreeau 🇦🇺 .
Excited to share the final version of our paper on UPEC/ExPEC Ucl fimbriae published in PLoS Pathogens. A great collaboration between our lab and @MulveyLab, @Kobe_Lab_, @ThomasVe7, @GlycoGriffith, @beatsonlab

In parallel work, the @GrannemanSander lab investigated sRNAs important for pathogenesis and found sRNAs controlling cytolytic PSM toxins!

Our work on the RNA interactome of Staph is out (twice!). Using RNase III-CLASH our groups uncovered RNA interactions controlling vancomycin tolerance (a last-line antibiotic) and production of cytolytic toxins.

The plasmid gene aac(6’)-Ib-cr confers 4x increase in MIC to cipro in strains already harbour resistant gyrA and parC mutations. This dual resistance combination shows strong association with emerging carbapenem resistant clones.

We are looking for genomics scientists for public health genomics including SARS-CoV-2 real time surveillance for Queensland https://t.co/XzwpvxxQ1m and https://t.co/Ya8Zy6kP7F
Discovery of DtrJ as an IncC plasmid conjugative transfer component - DtrJ is essential for DNA transfer and forms a complex with coupling protein TraD. Great work @SteveMicrobio@Loolibear@pmduy@beatsonlab@padstamundo https://t.co/8MKE67cpQp

In Norfolk in November (& 1st 3 days of Dec), 19% (131/681) of SARS-CoV-2 genomes were the new variant (B.1.1.7). There were none in October so this has expanded quite rapidly.
In another effort by the QBI Coronavirus Research Group, we and many others have studied the commonalities of host targeted mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV, identifying drug targets with potential pan-coronavirus activity #QCRGglobal https://t.co/jnSe0Tw76L
