Members of the Domestic Abuse Commissioners office who helped produce excellent report on transforming criminal justice system re domestic abuse clutching my book Sister in Law - great team work!
🧵 Today, I call on Govt and criminal justice leaders to deliver an accountable and consistent criminal justice system.
A domestic abuse call is made to police every 30 seconds. But far too many domestic abuse victims tell me the system has failed them.
Here's my vision 👇1/4
🧵 Later this year I will share my vision for the criminal justice response to domestic abuse.
But with criminal justice outcomes for domestic abuse victims at an unacceptable low, reform is needed now.
That's why I have today published my priorities for immediate change. 1/2
➡️ Do you have experience working with the media?
➡️ Are you passionate about ending domestic abuse?
➡️ Do you want to elevate survivor voice, especially for those most marginalised?
Then consider joining my team as Head of Communications and Lived Experience Engagement. 1/2
Today government introduces significant changes to a support scheme for migrant #DomesticAbuse survivors.
Despite more migrant victims being eligible for support, this scheme won't provide the long-term safety that they need.

🔔 The Victims and Prisoners Bill returns to parliament today.
I am delighted that government has supported my recommendation that all commissioners should assess local need for domestic abuse services in the #VictimsBill
But there is more to be done. (1/2)
I recently revealed that ALL police forces in England & Wales had shared migrant #DomesticAbuse victims' data with immigration
I urge govt to include a Firewall in the #VictimsBill so that victims can feel safe reporting & abusers can be brought to justice
Thank you @lawrsuk ⬇️
I spoke to @JPonpolitics about my new data revealing that every police force in England & Wales has shared data of migrant #DomesticAbuse victims
I urge govt to stop this so that victims can access support & abusers can be brought to justice

🧵Today's data confirms that migrant victim/survivors of domestic abuse fear of reporting crimes to the police is not unjustified.
Data sharing with Immigration Enforcement puts vulnerable women at further risk whilst harming the public interest.
#StepUpMigrantWomen
this briefing from @CommissionerDA shows why a data-sharing firewall is necessary for the protection of migrant victims
endlessly grateful to all who contributed and for the tireless years of campaigning by @lawrsuk@SBSisters@EVAWuk@Safety4Sisters that this work is built on
📢Today I reveal that ALL police forces in England & Wales have shared the data of migrant #DomesticAbuse victims.
@ukhomeoffice must end this practice that stops victims from reporting and allows abusers to evade justice.

We welcome @ukhomeoffice's long overdue independent evaluation report on the Support for Migrant Victims Fund. This report confirms what we have said about the devastating impact of NRPF on victims of domestic abuse and the limitations of the SMV fund as a temporary measure (1/3)
The govt's own analysis shows that support for migrant survivors of #DomesticAbuse is urgently needed
No-one should ever be denied a lifeline because of immigration status
We must put #SafetyBeforeStatus once and for all

Today @ukhomeoffice evaluation of the Support for Migrant Victims pilot shows that more and longer term support for migrant victims is urgently needed.
The pilot is only a sticking plaster for a fraction of victims and survivors who need support.

I spoke on @CIHhousing podcast with @HannahCIH & @Deidre_C about the links between anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse.
The Renters Reform Bill must ensure the safety of survivors of domestic abuse is prioritised in the response to #ASB.

🧵Today I discussed earlier resolution of private family law arrangements @CommonsJustice
We must carefully consider DA in these reforms - consequences are huge if it is overlooked
The @MoJGovUK Harm Panel demonstrates that DA is complex to identify + govt has accepted this
