“I am addressing young people here who are aspiring to be leaders. It is in your capacity, in your ability, in every possibility, to give your life a purpose and to make a choice. A choice that you know if you have made it, it is not just going to be confined to your life, but has impact on other people’s lives.
That is why it’s important when people are talking about why we should work together, continentally. Because not working together, what purpose does it serve? Who benefits from it? I just want to say, give it a try, you fail, you make a loss here, you make a gain here, but you stay the course. Keep going.” President Kagame | Africa Mindset Reset Forum 2026
“Self-reliance is in many aspects, it’s not just in technology and different systems. Self-reliance goes into other areas, even of governance. In Rwanda there are so many things we have done in areas of governance and service delivery, some people will wonder whether we don’t have more resources than we are known for. How does a poor country get to be here? That is delivered by that mindset of self-reliance.
Do whatever you can within your means, there are people who have the means and they can’t deliver. In fact, some people have a lot, in terms of means and they don’t deliver much. It’s a question of how do you want to approach the problem, it doesn’t matter the size. Rwanda is not by any standard a big country, we are one of the smallest countries in the world but that does not stop us looking around for what we can do within our means, and doing it.” President Kagame | Press Conference
