Whoever is thinking and deciding on the United Arab Emirates’ foreign relations and external interventions is doing a very poor job. Through its involvement in funding and arming the Rapid Support Forces, the UAE has lost the overwhelming majority of the Sudanese people. It has also alienated the Palestinian, Yemeni, Somali, and Libyan peoples, among others, who witness daily the disasters the UAE causes. All of these are nations with which the UAE seeks to establish long-term strategic economic interests that cannot be achieved through temporary positive relations with Western countries alone, whose people can change their leaders through elections. Nor can these interests be realized while the UAE, for years now, has been exploiting the fragility of states in the region and threatening their security, stability, and territorial unity through its interventions.

The UAE bears responsibility through its unlimited support for the RSF for the horrific crimes and violations committed by these militias since the start of the war. And Just as global public opinion, in the absence of international accountability, has managed to condemn and isolate Israel for its genocide in Gaza, the day will come when the UAE will also be held accountable for its reckless misuse of its wealth, financing wars and atrocities, foremost among them the horrific violations in Sudan, which rise to the level of genocide: from Darfur to Kordofan, from White Nile, Gezira, and Sennar to Khartoum.

The UAE, which denies these roles or sometimes claims it is acting to defeat the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamist movement in Sudan is not telling the truth, and no one is fooled by that claim. The Sudanese, who overthrew Albashir's regime through organized, peaceful action, did not need the UAE to prevail then, and they do not need it today, nor will they in the future.

The real motive is domination, expansion, and economic interest. It is an unlimited wealth that is used in harming others. And just as God gives, He also withholds.

It is about gold, which the UAE wants to continue flowing freely to its territory, not only from Sudan but from all African countries, especially those torn by wars and conflicts. Which has made the UAE the world’s second largest exporter of gold and, according to some reports, the largest, despite not having a single mine on its soil.

It is about control over ports, maritime routes, and trade corridors; about preparation and positioning for a post-oil world.

May God have mercy on the grieving people of Sudan everywhere.

May God have mercy on the victims in El-Fasher, Bara, and Umm Damm Hajj Ahmed, and may He send down upon us His peace, safety, and tranquility.
