1811: Pokesdown. The station held the name Boscombe in 1886, then Pokesdown (Boscombe) in 1891, then Pokesdown in 1897, then Pokesdown for Eastern Bournemouth in 1930 before finally settling on Pokesdown.

This morning, we were pleased to welcome the Secretary of State @transportgovuk, @Heidi_Labour, aboard the first South Western Railway service from London Waterloo under public ownership, complete with Great British Railways branding.
Today marks the launch of #railway200 - a year of celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the railway – with a global "Whistle-up" at midday.
Watch out for special events across the SWR network in 2025 as we honour two centuries of rail innovation.
